WEEK 13: Skin Electronics

Title

SkinElectronicsProcess

This week I hope to connects hair extensions, laced with conductive thread, to a microcontroller in order to turn it into an input device for triggering different effects such as turning an LED on..

1. Creating Skin Layer (Mask):

  • add vaseline release to mask
  • make a design
  • add a first thin layer of latex

2. Creating Conductive Crystalised Hair:

  • fake hair
  • divided it in 2
  • cut 10 strands of conductive thread (2 different thicknesses)
  • tapes to either side of hair splits
  • sewed hair to a piece of material
  • plait copper thread into fake hair
  • elastics on either end
  • make bare condictive alum hot water mixture and drop plaits in over night
    • [ 1x Bare Electric Paint 50ml jar
    • Boiling water
    • Alum (or the same amount of borax)
    • Fishing line
    • Wooden stick
    • Substrates like textiles/yarns/pipecleaners]

Lighting Up Skin Masks:

  • Electonics: LEDs, fine wires, insulation
  • FX makeup: liquid latex, skin glue, glitter

PROCESS:

  1. Programme Adafrutt Gemma using below website
  2. Connect aligator clips to gemma and (Upload codehttps://learn.adafruit.com/led-masquerade-masks/neopixel-gemma-mask)
  3. LED should turn on
  4. Cover LED with a tiny swatch of silk befor crystalisation process
