4|a| Digital Embroidery¶
I explored data embroidery.
Embroidery with typography was tricky as typography as a vector file didn’t not work well with the embroidery software. The vector draws the outline and not the typography itself. I then made the file directly by adding the text into the software (and not importing the vector file) and choosing the typography already made to embroider.
I had to think about tabs and lines of text that will fit into the A4 format of the software file. Also because in my first sample I didn’t selected the option to cut the lines at the end of each line, there was threads going from the end of a line to the next line. For my second test, I selected manually the option with cut at the end of the last number of each line.
To embroider on organza silk I used disolvable fabric (GUNOLD - SOLVY -48625) that I placed over and under the organza textile in the frame. The first small sample took approximately 20min. For at the A4 format the embroidery took a bit more than 1 hour. I had several problems with the thread that will break quite often. Once I changed the thread to a thinner thread it worked well.
