HANDS

I decided to focus my project specifically to hands.

Hands fascinates me

They are the first tool of the MAKING - craft

Hands and textile are related as the tactile appeal of textile is very strong

Textile is a material that we want to TOUCH.

They are our "door" to the world through the tactile SENSE - beyond vision - our way to gain access to texture by touching or by being touched

  • Right click -zoom left click for moove
  • push the record button and then slowly turn all around the object - also on top
  • the object should be green when scanning
  • the review the result

MAKE HUMAN

Start making a 3D model on Make human

  • Change the size/height/weight and other caracteristics of the model
  • Changed the lengh of the fingers/hands arms
  • Save
  • then export on Obj and stl

(note: you can mutiplicate models to create several humans)

MakeHuman1 MakeHuman2

RHINO

  • Open .stl file of your human

to select the part that you want to use * create a cube on rhino - place the human part that you want to delete in it) * then -click on- or serach for MeshBooleanDifference (be carefull to work the human as a mesh ) * press enter between each step of bollean process

Scale *the human is super small - millimiter you have to multiply and scale it to siz - ex:by 100 * search: scale * click on the workplace to place the reference point you want * 1st option scale manually extending the line on your workspace * 2nd option type the purcentage on the command search bar * press enter

*Save and then select>export selected> as Obj or Stl

SLICER FUSION

  • Import your Stl file
  • change the template frame to fit to the laser cutting board - on top in "parameter"
  • don't forget to add the thikness of your board. (here 2.5mm)
  • Choose the type of slicer you want
  • Experiment
  • Choose and change your axis
  • Then work manually on the file choosing from the differents options

  • Save and then Export your as on bottom left of the window Pdf, ... and ...

OPTIMIZING File The Slicer fusion do not optimize the spaces between each piece to cut, to reduce numbers of cut and reduce the waste in the board. Open your pdf on illustrator then select and move each piece to optimize the space and reduce ...

This is an illustration of the final cuts optimized in the frame/board:

LASER CUTTING

STEPS FOR The Use of The LASER MACHINE

  • Place the material at the left corner, it must be well placed against the honeycomb base otherwise it will burn - Fix with small pieces of painter's tape if necessary

  • Adjust the height of the tray/Platform - lower the tray with the buttons - use the small metal component- place it on the laser and gradually raise the tray slowly until it touches the metal end and makes it fall

  • Place the laser at the top left corner of the cardboard and close the cover

  • Adjust the speed and power of the laser on the program, so that the power and speed are adapted to what you want to do and to the material. That is to say neither too fast nor too strong - for example different if we want engraving or cutting

  • Run some tests and readjust if necessary

  • Open the document on the computer on Adobe PDF click Print and start printing to the laser (as for a conventional printer)

  • The file is displayed in the tasks to be performed in the right list of the software

  • Drag the file onto the work surface and pin the left anchor of the folder to the left corner of the print area (black square)> click update> click the Ready button

  • Monitor printing

  • Once the printing is finished, wait for the green light to go out on the smoke extraction machine to the right of the device before opening the cover and lifting the cover

Prototype Assembly

STEPS

Final step is to Organize each piece following coordinates Zor Y and numbers. Then slide pieces one after the other strating from bottom to top (fingers). It's very fragile at the begining then the structure became stronger. I guess this is more an experimentation: I world say that cardboard is not the ideal material for the slot technique as it folds easely, so when you have to imbricate two or more pieces together it more difficult than if it wad whith plywood for example.
