Experiment 02; Pampas Grass Feather¶
Quarentine Mode! Experimentation with Pampas Grass and Chinese Ink.
Materials¶
For this experiment, I used "not bio" materials, for the next one I would love to do it with biochromes
- 1 piece of Pampas Grass
- Chinese Ink, i use Pink, Red and Violet tone
- Containers, i use Cupcake Molds jaja
- Water
Let's get our hands dirty :)¶
EXP01 - Cold Dyes¶
First of all, we need to separate the leaves of the grass, I was trying to cut it with a lot of "base" (this thin stick where the grass sprouts)
For the next step, I put some cold water into the cupcake molds with some drops of the chinese ink, then I dipped the grass into the molds and let them soak for 2 hours.
After waiting for the 2 hours, I take the grass out of the soak, and let it dry at room temperature. The results weren't as colorfull as i expected, so I decided to make another experiment, but with hot water dyes.
EXP02 - Hot Dyes¶
This time, I use the same separate leaves that i cut for the first experiment.
Next step was to put cold water into a big pot with the chinese ink, this time I use just the Pink one for testing. Once I put the ink into the warm water, I dipped the grass into the pot and let them soak for an hour on medium heat.

After 1 hour in medium heat
After 1 hour of soaking, I let the pot cool down for 30 min with the grass inside. Once it's cold, I separate the grass one by one and I removed the excess of water with paper towel.
Once i have all of the grass "wet" I started to dry it one by one with my hair dyer.
When I have it all dry, I tried how they would look in a Tote Bag to be able to sew them. Then I let it sit overnight, just to be sure that they're 100% dry.
At the next day, i started my Frankenstain, which is my Tote Bag with my Grass Feathers. Here's some photos of my final results.
