12. Soft robotics

  • Soft robotics is a subfield of robotics that concerns the design, control, and fabrication of robots composed of compliant materials, instead of rigid links.

  • Soft components typically used in soft robots include ### silicone elastomers, urethanes, hydrogels, braided fabrics, hydraulic fluids, and gasses.

We used white silicone to make the inflatables, (ratio; 100g A -> 2-4g B). We put the mixture in a glass and stirred continuously for 2 minutes, then we had to pour the material into our mold little by little, keeping it at a 45º angle, to avoid bubbles. Then we placed the mold on a flat surface and tapped the table several times, so that the bubbles would dissipate. We let the mold dry for 72 hours. Finally, we added silicone to a piece of cloth, and we placed the mold on top of it. (Non-inflatable base)
