13. Skin Electronics¶
Inspiration¶
The normalization of the use of surveillance technologies has contributed to the end of our privacy/anonymity. We are surrounded by smart devices like cameras that monitor us in real time. These cameras are part of a facial recognition system with questionable purposes and that have not been executed in a transparent way, consequently putting at risk individual rights and freedoms, besides reinforcing prejudices such as transphobia, racism, sexism, elistism. We don't know who can access this data or for how long or even for what purpose as the accuracy of this technology is flawed.
If there are several legislative and technological gaps, how to preserve the right to privacy?

Sketch
Eletronic Circuit
After analyzing the face sketches with possible positions of the IR LEDs, I chose the option with 7 LEDs: two side pairs close to the eyes and the trio of LEDs that cover the end of the chin.
I will use a 9V battery to power the IR LEDs. To know how to arrange the leds in series and parallel according to the voltage and current of the led, I used an online led calculator .
After I put the IR led data, some solutions were generated.
Thinking about the position of the LEDs on my face and with the lowest current, I chose solution 4 and prototyped on the breadboard.
To see if it worked I used the notebook camera.
It is not possible to paste the LEDs directly on the face because it can generate a short circuit so I will wrap the LEDs and their connections with synthetic hair. I was inspired by this reference of makeup and wet hair with the finger waves hairstyle.
