13. Skin Electronics¶
Recitation¶
This crazy 13 and last week 😱😱😱 began by a recitation by Filippo Nasseti , Architect and Generative Designer.
His work is inspired by the relation between Nature and Technology, what he called "Postnatural Design".
He creates Collagene Masks, thinking about protective elements for the body.
A short video about :
Different applications¶
The project developped by Katia Vega is called ""Beauty Technology.
The idea is to use skin as an interface, and to create "unnoticeable wearable devices" : electronics totally hidden in the cosmectics with concealed gesture, triggering a technological device.
Through Make up¶
A chemical process metallizes eyelashes to make them conductive, or a conductive sticker as an eyeliner : the way you blink gives information about your behaviour or your emotionnal state. In this case, the system is thought to work with voluntary blinking : for example, the blink of your eyes will enlight yout dress
Make-up that could automatically change of colour, using a thermochromic inklayer, whith a heating reistor on top, and an isolation layer, like the project Chromoskin
Through Hairware¶
Chemically metalized hair extensions (copper and black nickel) connected to a microcontroller : Your hair is turned into an input device triggering different objects
Through TechNails¶
Interact through your fingernails as microcontrollers : for example to use your phone, or open a door, each finger nail being a different card, or a different note to play music
Temporary Tatoos¶
Body language¶
Those technologies are related to our human behaviour and gesture. By making those natural and instinctive moves, which we call the Body language, and that give information to micro controllers.
The Kinisi Project illustrates well how the frontier between electronic and human has become really thin.
As you watch this video, you're no longer sur if it is still reality or not !!! I think it is really impressive but it let me as well a bit uncomfortable. Will we be able to fix reasonnable bundaries, taking into account ethical
Boundaries¶
Factors to consider when you attach electronics to the skin :
- Sweat
- Moisterized skin
- Duration
- Flexibility
- Body cover
Tuto 1¶
During this tuto, Emma explained us how to use an AT tiny.
But first, what do you use it for in fact ??

Capacitive sensors¶
See here what is a capacitive sensor :
I also strongly recommand to have a look at the INCREDIBLE work of Jessica Stanley , from Fabricademy 2019 !!!
Piezzoresistive matrix¶
