Deployment¶
Origami is the ancient art of transforming a flat piece of paper into a variety of 3D shapes by simply folding along a pre-set crease pattern.
Geometrie¶
The aesthetics and effective deployment of origami folds is an interesting direction to investigate.

Deployment of a horn¶
For the deployment of a horn:
- Shape memory polymers are distanced because their expensive price.
- Shape memory alloys are distanced because I think they are not appropriate for the expansion.
Design & Fabrication¶
From the book of SPIRAL Origami Art Design by Tomoko Fuse, I folded a paper whirlpool spiral (5|10|31) from a crease pattern produced from Rhinoceros software. The paper advantage is its thinness to make a very flat stack despite the number of layers. To realier the crease pattern, I followed the Inkscape Tutorial: Drawing Origami Crease Patterns for Whirlpool Spirals.

Actuation test: Shape memory alloys
I knew it wasn't going to be the method chosen but I tried it to see the "power" of relaxation after contraction.
Actuation test : electromagnetism
I was thinking of using the repulsion between 2 magnets to trigger the deployment of the spiral and therefore using an electromagnet to trigger it. It's a failure, there is no repulsion. However, I could use the electromagnet to get rid of something for my project.

Video editing¶
I chose to show the manufacturing process. I wanted to show the view of some software. So I used the OBS software which is very quick to learn.
The metamorphosis must take place at the beginning of the video so as not to spoil the surprise effect. I chose an epic music on the bensound website:: evolution by Benjamin Tissot. It's really the perfect music as there are several music effects during which the deployment of the origami set at these moments is really the most impactful and moreover these effects are at the beginning of the music.
