GANT-PLANNING¶
DEVELOPED WORKSHOPS AND TUTORIALS¶
Until now I developed five workshops and for four of them also a colourful tutorial.
The tutorial is a little booklet with visual elements that are attractive for children. Materials that are used for this booklet are:
-
recycled white cotton
-
recycled felt for the cover of the booklet
-
elastic strap
The text of the tutorial and sensitory examples are sewed onto the white cotton.
The tutorial can be used as a poster to watch at while doing the workshop.
Tutorial 1. Fabricating biomaterials¶
This booklet I developed for the workshop Fabricating Biomaterials:
This is what the children discover when they unfold the booklet:
Here you can see the unfolded tutorial on how to fabricate biomaterials:
And here you can find the PDF version on how to fabricate biomaterials.
Tutorial 2. Gelliplate printing on fabric with a self-made gelliplate¶
This booklet I developed for the workshop 'Gelliplate printing on fabric with a self-made gelliplate':
On one side of the unfolded booklet you find the tutorial on making a gelliplate.
On the other side of the unfolded booklet you find the tutorial on gelliplate printing on fabric:
Here you can find the PDF tutorial on how to make a gelliplate.
And here is the PDF tutorial on how to print on fabric with a gelliplate.
Tutorial 3. Printing with Lego Dots stamps on textile¶
This booklet I developed for the workshop 'Printing on textile with stamps made of Lego Dots':
When the booklet is unfolded you can find the tutorial on how to print on textile with stamps made of Lego Dots:
Here you can find the PDF tutorial on how to print on fabric with Lego Dots.
Tutorial 4. Forms made from discarded fabrics¶
This booklet I developed for the workshop 'forms made from discarded fabrics'.
On one side of the unfolded booklet you find the tutorial on making self-made glue.
On the other side of the unfolded booklet you find the tutorial on how to make forms from discarded fabrics.
Here you can find the PDF tutorial on how to fabricate your own glue.
And here is the PDF tutorial on how make forms from discarded fabrics.
Tutorial 5. Sewing techniques¶
The tutorial I developed for sewing techniques is for making a simple soft toy, because kids love to make their own cuddle toy and so it is very accessible for them.
Here you can find the PDF tutorial on how to sew a soft toy.
MODULAR BOXES¶
Because I will give workshops on location in a first stage, I want to have a modular infrastructure for all the necessary materials that can be easily moved in a little van and that looks nice at the same time.
In Brussels there was running the RE-MAKE CHALLENGE, organised by the Brussels Fablabs, for which I applied to receive recycled plastic boxes. I received the confirmation that I can develop my project with the boxes.
I will develop a nice textile bag, that can be closed completely, and can be placed in the box. Those boxes with bags inside could contain the necessary materials for the workshops. With those boxes I can structure everything in a nice way.
Once arrived at the location, I can remove the textile bags so that the boxes can be used as modular furniture necessary during the time of the workshop.
E.g. Seats for which I can make a thick cushion
Or:
-table legs to put a table top on it
-Vertical elements for a shelving unit
- board for attaching things by assembling and stacking different elements
STEM-TRAINING¶
I followed a training from the Flemish Government to be a trainer for giving STEM-workshops..
In June 2024 I will follow an official training from the Flemish Government on how to develop STEM-workshops.
JOB-APPLICATIONS¶
Freelance Steam-trainer¶
In April I applied at the UCLL Techniek-en WetenschapsAcademie to give STEAM workshops as a freelancer. They are interested in my approach of integrating textile as a medium in the STEAM workshops they have developed.
In July 2024 our collaboration will start because I will then give a first STEAM workshop they developed.
Steam-workshop developer for IMEC¶
In March I had two rounds of job interviews for the worldwide research and development hub IMEC to develop STEAM workshops for primary schools. They were very enthousiast about the STEAM workshops with textile I presented them. I am waiting for their final decision if I will have the job or not.
EVENTS¶
Makerfair Ottenburg - April 2024¶
I presented 3 workshops at the Makerfair in my hometown Ottenburg: sewing techniques, gelliplate printing and introduction to e-textiles. It was a big succes with a lot children who followed the workshops. Because of all the action I forgot to take pictures.
!
I Love Science Festival - Octobre 2024¶
I applied for the science festival I LOVE SCIENCE and have gotten the confirmation that I can give 3 workshops at this festival.
I Love Science festival is a 3 days long science festival where kids and youngsters can participate in STEAM workshops.
This festival will take place in Brussels in Octobre 2024.
I have proposed 3 different workshops related to (recycled) textile:
-
Biomaterials: make a gelliplate and print your favorite design with it on a T-shirt/tote bag
-
Textile as a scaffold: pump up your garment with an inflatable patch.
-
Create a silk screen mold of your favorite design and make nice designs with it (inkscape, lasercutter or simple cutter)
