ANASTASIA i love the way you narrate , the storytelling of your project Ray, its has the personal perspective in the perfect combination with the your critical comments about society and your unique aesthetics! ! ! i would love to see backstage scenes that you did not put in the video.! wonderful drawings on your website and gifs and videos ! it would be lovely as a next phase to use the fabricademy group to play the game and give you ideas and feedback, even to create some online space where people can meet, i think there will be many people looking into ideas of how to deal with trash that will want to exchange ideas and play together.
DIANE Loved your video, very captivating! I like that you went with the idea of a game, and the overall vibe of the project is very fun and chaotic! Makes you want to experiment with trash, and you know it's going to be fun! I appreciate the website a lot, it reminds me of the Internet of the 90s <3
NURIA Hi Ray, it's been mind-blowing how I felt a total apocalypse while watching your video. The landing page is very nice and looks very intuitive. I would love to learn about the user experience.
CECILIA NOTES:
* You take us in the world of Ray :) but - make a short term and a long term plan :) there is the 3 motnhs of Fabricademy and there is the lifetime :)
in terms of apocalyptic scenario> Have a look at the work of Teresa van Twuijver as our artist in residence a couple years ago >> see https://www.indigenousdutch.nl >> she starts from a similar scenario
* the tangible outcomes are important, even if they may take the form of an expo as first entry, the website can support the replication of the interaction of the tangible experience
OSCAR NOTES:
Can you live with it? in it? live with others? Can you document the process... as a reflective action? It can have a collaborative, community approach.
Look at the work of Franz Erhard Walther
RICO NOTES:
You are in the same lab as Michelle Vossen, a great resource for making gold from trash. I vote for Scenario C...the Nomad. Check out Bag Worm Moth Caterpillars. A thought came to mind as you presented...especially the post-apocalypic scenario...that you are questioning the idea of 'homelessness' and the garment and structures that are associated with it...which normally has a distasteful image. Looking forward to seeing what you arrive at!
HALA NOTES:
Really interested in how the speculative scenario you're living in will inspire the artefacts you will be creating! The question you had at the bottom under your scenarious seems like such an important driver for the designs!
STEPH NOTES:
Fantastic Ray! I really like the idea of having a wearable home, or alternative ways of living.
RUBY NOTES:
look at fluxus manuals / instructions and Erwin Wurm 1 minute sculptures for inspiration on involving the audience in the project creation the open, absurd creation seems like it would suit your concept
MINA NOTES:
dont think it needs to be said but your style slays , you've probably already seen it but your whole project conception and motivations make me think of agnes varda, and her documentaries, specifically Les glaneurs et la glaneuse, but also of this project where people used discarded garments to make masssive art installments, ill try to find it.... trying to accumulate a lot more thoughts, will return.... "Nanook of the North" 'fascinates with its dramatic depiction of life in an extremely hostile environment'
Draft Scenario - Necessity as Virtue: Crafting a Sustainable Tomorrow
Overview: In a world reshaped by a hypothetical solar storm, our project, "Necessity as Virtue," challenges the status quo, urging communities to embrace self-sufficiency and question the way we create and consume. We propose two compelling routes that leverage local surroundings and foster a spirit of inquiry.
Scenario A: Upcycling with Existing and New Materials As conventional supply chains crumble, "Necessity as Virtue" calls for a return to craftsmanship and resourcefulness. Our approach encourages communities to:
-
Local Workshops: Establish hubs where individuals learn the art of upcycling, turning discarded materials into new, purposeful items.
-
Skills Empowerment: Launch educational initiatives, equipping people with the skills to creatively repurpose materials, promoting self-sufficiency.
-
Resource Collaboration: Develop a community-driven catalog, facilitating the sharing and exchange of materials, fostering collaboration and circular economies.
Scenario B: Bio-Fabrication using Natural Raw Composites In the aftermath of the solar storm, our project champions bio-fabrication with locally sourced materials. By questioning conventional practices, we aim to:
-
Biomimetic Innovation: Draw inspiration from local ecosystems, applying nature's design principles to create sustainable materials with unique functionalities.
-
Natural Elements Integration: Utilize locally available polymers and plasticizers from plants, fungi, or algae to produce biodegradable alternatives, reducing reliance on traditional plastics.
-
Community Research Collaborations: Establish research hubs that unite local expertise, encouraging collaborative efforts to develop innovative bio-fabrication methods and materials.
Impact: "Necessity as Virtue" invites communities to rethink, repurpose, and reinvent in the face of uncertainty. By turning to our local surroundings and questioning established norms, we can transform necessity into an opportunity for sustainable change. This project is a call to action, inspiring a collective journey towards a more resilient, resourceful, and interconnected future.
