Introduccion to Rhino and lasser cut

Paula, our local instructor propose us to desing a personal card on Rhino to start getting to know the program and printtin in the lasser cut machine on bioplastics :)

  • Rhinoceros is a 3D modeling software desing on Rhino wich was a little bit tricky at first, but it gets easier with practise. Our first assigment was to desing a personal card => good idea to sart with a 2D desing before trying 3D

  • Lasser cut: How Does it Work? by high-power laser which is directed through optics and computer control that direct the beam on material. The focused laser beam burns, melts, vaporises or is blown away by a jet of gas. The lasing material is amplified by being reflected internally in mirror until its energy is enough for it to escape as a stream of light. This light is focused at the work area by mirrors

=> important to check calibrate the parameters of the intensity and speed of the light => this takes a series of tests until you get the riht numbers

Final samples:

  • blue: samples made from bioplastic that was on the BDC
  • transparent & the fail orange were bioplastica samples that I brought from Argentina

First approach to digital bodies:

Inspiration for this assigment:

I decided to work on a breast model, thinking it could be useful as a mold for future creation. I wanted to start with a simple form cause all this dising softwares are complete new for me, so at this point I think less is more.

RHINO: 2nd round

(hard day)

  • my RHINO is in spanish so _ is the way to write de commands in english

Open the obj in this software to generate slices for laser cut

Laser cut

First thing is to writte the right parameters:

Laser cut : speed => 70 power (min) => 50 power (max) => 53

Laser scan : speed => 800 power (min) => 25 power (max) => 27

  • NOTE: when I sent the the parameters I noticed that the machine wasnt scanning cause numbers arent close figures, so I change scan to dot and it worked. :)

Once you have all the pieces I started to stick them following the numbers and the dots. I used glue and some needles for the process.

𖦹 Notes & thoughs 𖦹

  • This week was hard, Rhino stressed me out.
  • good desicion to work with simple form
  • Im happy with my result, i need to keep practising with Rhino :/
