About me¶
Hey! Im Liz, fashion designer & stylist, business woman & holistic healer from Canada.
Background¶
I grew up in a small town in Northern Ontario spending summers at my cottage, boating, swimming, hiking, and winters at my chalet, skiing. I love to sew, make art, cook, play and mix music, be in nature and active.
I completed an undergraduate degree in Business Finance and French Studies at Western University, including two exchages living in Hong Kong and France. Following my undergrad, I completed Fashion Design and Styling programs at Toronto Fashion Academy, improving my sewing and design skills.
My education and personal health journey have given me a unique perspective on the intersection of health and fashion. My whole life, I have struggled with chronic illness and adhd, which for a long time, made me doubt my ability to pursue a full-time career in fashion design due to the limitations my body can experience. The lack of support from the western medical system, particularly for women and children, led me to explore alternative medicines to mitigate my symptoms. These included different types of holistic healing, like naturopathy, acupuncture, sound healing, herbal medicines, etc. These practices have been essential in managing my symptoms and have influenced my perspective on the purpose of fashion and what the functionality of clothing could be.
Previous work¶
My practical experience in the fashion industry includes interning at a modelling agency, Plutino Group, working as a set stylist for many runway shows, editorials and fashion events, I've worked for brands like Kalii Jewelry, Vandal Goods, HOSH Canada, and Elite Imports.
I launched a line of hats and sweatpants in local boutiques under my brand name BISH, and am always working on a side project, either sewing, upcycling, designing or crafting. My exploration of industrial design through furniture and art, has helped me to better understand blending aesthetics and functionality.
Outside of fashion, I've spent many years working in wealth and finance for companies like Arrow Capital Management Hedge Fund, CIBC Wood Gundy Private Investments and the Co-operators Insurance. Working in a finance has never felt as exciting or enriching to me the way creating fashion, art and cooking does.
Most recently, I have been researching the creation of a smart textile that promotes healing by flowing bio-plasma through the garnment using hertz frequency transmission.
