Final Week Log – Fabricademy Project: Magnetic Textile & Sustainable Accessories - MagnaLiber

Week Overview

Goal for the Week

  • Finalizing my magnetic textile design and exploring by-products from the process.
  • Refining sustainable applications by repurposing waste material into accessories.
  • Preparing the final presentation.

Main Tasks Completed

  • Improved the magnetic fabric synthesis for better adhesion.
  • Developed magnetic crystallized by-products from wastewater.
  • Designed asymmetrical earrings & pendant concepts from the by-product.
  • Created presentation slides & visuals for the final showcase.

Key Breakthroughs & Refinements

1. From Textile to Circular Design

  • Originally, my focus was only on magnetic fabric, but I realized I could use the crystalized waste by-product for jewelry.
  • This closes the material loop, making the project more sustainable and innovative.

2. Magnetic Crystal Accessories

  • Developed earrings & pendant concepts using the crystallized material.
  • The contrast of porous & structured textures creates a futuristic, avant-garde aesthetic.
  • Explored magnetic modularity—potential for self-assembling jewelry.

Challenges & Solutions

Challenge Solution
pH & Reaction Control → Initial difficulty reaching stable crystallization. ✔ Adjusted chemical ratios & drying process.
Fabric Burning Issue → When heating above 200°C. ✔ Developed a low-temp process and pre-annealed the powder separately.
Jewelry Size & Forming Issues → Crystals too large for delicate accessories. ✔ Experimented with powder-sized fragments for a refined design.

Final Presentation & Next Steps

Presentation Focus

  • Showcasing the magnetic textile's functionality.
  • Highlighting the sustainable by-product transformation into jewelry.
  • Exploring future applications in fashion & wearable tech.

Future Possibilities

  • Further material testing for flexibility & durability.
  • Developing interactive accessories using magnetic forces.
  • Expanding on sustainable smart textiles.

Final Thoughts

"This project started with a simple goal—making magnetic fabric. But through experimentation, I discovered a whole new circular design potential. Instead of just creating a material, I developed a system where nothing is wasted, and everything transforms. This week brought me closer to merging fashion, technology, and sustainability into a truly innovative concept."
