3. Circular Open Source Fashion¶
I am writing this week's work under my NDA folder due to confidential work for TOYOTA.
Assignment¶
- Design and prototype with paper and scissors modular configurations and locking connections. Document the paper prototypes
- Run tests of laser cutting of your designs in fabric and document the parameters for the chosen fabric. Design and Document the process
- Laser cut the modules
- Create a modular or seamless garment, showing that the connection is well designed and holds the pull/stretch of a garment
- Document the assembly process and tests.
- Upload the open source file in pdf, in correct scale with 1-5 pictures at (https://oscircularfashion.com) (preferably in white background) The files should be accompanied by a list of materials that can be used, pictures of the final piece, various configurations and pictures of details of assembling or special parameters to be considered
- EXTRA POINT Submit some of the modules to the analog or digital material library of the lab (20x20cm approx.)
Assignment for Kohshi from Anastasia¶
During my individual review by Anastasia on Wednesday, I do not need to follow the all assignment contents announced in Global lecture but follow the following three points; - Modularity - Customization - Disassembly
I would like to add following point as well; - Function
Research & Ideation¶
As I am focusing my Fabricademy work as making urethane less (vehicle) seat, I was interested in Bag's leather pattern introduced by Claudia during the lecture.
I searched spider web shape as a reference of generative design.
Instead of playing with paper, I played with strings that could make seat back like condition to see how unique person's back shape be supported and adjusted.
Kae brought Miura-Origami made by herself as an example of texture with function. The structure became concave shape by holding at the center top.
Leafs concave shape is defined by surrounding edge tension.
Kae showed me an interesting 3D pattern made by 2D Laser cutting and folding. This can be used as a cushion on the surface of seat which might also become a base of pressure sensor.
Seat back model making¶
2D laser cutting model design by Inkscape¶
Grid line setting
Set snapping function
Draw circle by fixing the center; put cursor at the center point with ctrl + shift key
I drew modular seat back as a start of seat back model making.
After laser cutting, I assembled modular seat back which swings along the fixed node suspended from the surrounding frame.

Remember to credit/reference all your images to their authors. Open source helps us create change faster together, but we all deserve recognition for what we make, design, think, develop.
-
remember to resize and optimize all your images. You will run out of space and the more data, the more servers, the more cooling systems and energy wasted :) make a choice at every image :)
This image is optimised in size with resolution 72 and passed through tinypng for final optimisation. Remove tips when you don't need them anymore!

footnote fabrication files
Fabrication files are a necessary element for evaluation. You can add the fabrication files at the bottom of the page and simply link them as a footnote. This was your work stays organised and files will be all together at the bottom of the page. Footnotes are created using [ ^ 1 ] (without spaces, and referenced as you see at the last chapter of this page) You can reference the fabrication files to multiple places on your page as you see for footnote nr. 2 also present in the Gallery.
