Hello! My name is Maricruz Chavéz and for six months I will be documenting my progress in the Fabricademy program, which is a technological innovation program in the textile field. It focuses on digital fabrication, exploring materials, new manufacturing methods, wearables, and other technological innovation resources. I am very excited because I don’t know much about the world of textile design, and approaching it in this way is helping me surpass my preconceived ideas.

Previous work

I was part of the curatorial panel and organization of the ARTEFAB project, an art exhibition focused on the integration of digital fabrication in the artistic field. This exhibition seeks to explore and highlight how digital fabrication technologies, such as 3D printing, laser cutting, and other advanced fabrication tools, can be used as mediums for artistic creation, generating an innovative space where art and technology converge. One of the pieces was my latest personal project, a dress made with 3D printing and fabric "Sorpresa", which also participated in the Beyond Fashion 24 runway.

Sorpresa

Nowadays people have a great stimulation of all the senses, so this proposal is about one of the most immediate and quickest emotions, 'Sorpresa'.

This project is mutable, at first it is short and flat, but as it stretches it fills with volume and energy, occupying a space that was not dared to be used before. It is an outfit with life, where the wearer is invited to play and claim more space.
