The Archive of Emotions: A Three-Layered Journey

Now that we better understand emotions, it’s clear that they shape our realities. By learning to identify and control our emotions, we gain greater self-awareness and clarity. In simpler terms, this process helps us understand ourselves better, allowing us to predict and manage how we feel. I imagine emotions as a very heavy burden on our shoulders. Do you know the feeling when we bury and suffocate ourselves in ancient wounds? It darkens our lives, clouds our perspectives, and makes even simple tasks feel intolerable.

But when we start to understand and process our emotions, the weight begins to lift. Little by little, we free ourselves from past experiences and make room for new, fresh starts. This process is similar to Freud’s iceberg metaphor—digging beneath the surface to uncover and resolve hidden emotions and thoughts.

Inspired by this journey, I envisioned three distinct layers to symbolize the evolution of our emotional experience:

The Heavy

Concept: This layer reflects the burden of emotions—the unresolved wounds, the confusion, and the clash of feelings that weigh us down. These are the emotions we carry without fully understanding them, which feel like chaos on our shoulders.

Design Inspiration: Garments in this layer will feature heavy textures, 3D-printed, and fabric manipulation elements with rigid patterns to represent emotional turmoil. Structural elements, such as pleats rigid forms, will mimic the overwhelming weight of suppressed emotions.

Emotion: Confusion and clashing emotions dominate this stage, symbolizing the difficulty of initial emotional awareness.

The Light

Concept: This layer signifies the first steps of emotional awareness and acceptance. It’s the point where we begin to identify and process our emotions, shedding their weight little by little. As we do, a sense of lightness and clarity starts to emerge.

Design Inspiration:

Lightweight and sheer fabrics, such as chiffon organza, will symbolize the shedding of emotional burdens. Details like plissé textures, draping, laser cut elements on sheer fabric will visually represent progress—uneven yet steady.

Emotion: This is a transformative phase where emotional understanding leads to lightness and self-discovery.

The Naked

Concept: The final layer represents emotional maturity and complete self-awareness. This is when we reconcile with our subconscious mind, embrace vulnerability, and achieve freedom from emotional constraints.

Design Inspiration:

Minimalistic very close to the skin body suit fabrics will convey rawness and liberation. while it has led light strips to reflect how our bodies respond when emotions are fully expressed.

Emotion: A state of emotional clarity, transparency, and peace.
