Storytelling¶
The Heavy: Grief, Loss, and Shame¶
Setting
A dimly lit, almost pitch-black old theater or abandoned house. The atmosphere should feel claustrophobic and isolating, amplifying the heaviness of the emotions being conveyed.
Lighting
Strong contrasts with deep shadows, emphasizing the silhouettes of the model and garment. The harsh, stark lighting should feel unnerving. Focus on dramatic side lighting to cast long shadows, amplifying the ambiguity and mystery of the emotions. Dim, flickering light to represent the inner turmoil of grief and loss.
Model Poses
Main Focus
The focus should be on the heaviness and restraint of the garment, with close-up shots of the fabric, ropes, and shreds slowly falling off.
- The cape symbolizes grief and loss—heavy, suffocating, and burdensome.
-
Include close-ups on the fabric and the subtle movement of the garment (perhaps fabric tearing or shedding).
-
Tied hands will be a key visual to show how emotions hold us back, creating physical and emotional tension.
Color Grading
Monochromatic grays and cool tones: These colors symbolize numbness, emotional detachment, and darkness. The visuals should feel muted, with dark undertones to heighten the emotional weight.
Music and sound
Start with ambient, haunting sounds (soft crying, whispers, or distant screams) to build intensity.
Gradually introduce echoes of distorted voices or emotional sounds to enhance the emotional tension.
Props
- Shattered glass or broken mirrors representing broken memories.
- Faded photographs or tattered mementos subtly appearing in the background—possibly projected or hanging—to reinforce the theme of loss.
- Tied Hands: The model’s hands will be bound, symbolizing the emotional restraint or burden of grief.
Transition
A subtle shift in light can represent the emotional shift away from grief.
Small glows or cracks in the darkness suggest the possibility of change and healing.
The Light: Gratitude, Happiness, and Nostalgia¶
Setting
The lighting and set design should begin to open up in space, making the room feel bigger and more expansive as we transition to the lighter emotions.
Lighting
The lighting from the first part begins to soften, with glowing light gradually filling the frame.
Introduce gentler shadows, but keep the focus on the softness of the light as it makes the space feel less oppressive.
Consider a backlight shining through the tulle, allowing it to glow and interact with the ambient atmosphere.
Model Poses
-
The model's movement becomes more fluid, with the tulle cape floating and swaying to the rhythm of the light and her body.
-
Soft Projections: Memories or symbolic shapes could dance on the tulle, creating a visual of emotional release and reflection.
Main Focus
-
Tulle Cape: The ghost-like, ethereal nature of the tulle cape should be the main focus.
It’s light, translucent, and almost dream-like, floating and catching the light in beautiful ways. -
Fabric Movement: As the model moves, use the fabric’s flowing movement to symbolize the freedom and release of emotional baggage.
You can experiment with the smoke machine to enhance this ethereal quality. -
Subtle Projections on the garment can create the sense of memories or dreams—fading but still present.
Color Grading
- Transition from grays to warm pinks and soft purples.
- Pink hues represent comfort, healing, and the lightness of gratitude,
while purple can symbolize nostalgia and emotional transition. - The color should feel warm, but still somewhat reflective, showing emotional depth.
props
- Smoke Machine: Soft billowing smoke that interacts with the tulle cape, adding mystique and ethereal movement.
Music and sound
- Transition to softer, more uplifting music, like chimes or light instrumental sounds.
- Gradually introduce subtle ambient noises like wind, soft chimes, or the faint sound of a distant bell.
The Naked: Love, Majesty, Vulnerability¶
Setting
-
The setting becomes open, with light filling the space completely.
The atmosphere should feel purified and renewed, symbolizing emotional clarity. -
No specific props are needed except for the garments themselves, allowing the model's movements to take center stage.
-
The light becomes more flooding, while the projections sync with the model’s movements, creating a sense of emotional freedom.
-
There should be no hard transitions—this is the moment where everything comes together and feels light and free.
Lighting
-
Bright, soft light: The lighting should feel almost celestial, clean, and peaceful, symbolizing the emotional lightness and vulnerability of love.
-
The light should fill the frame, with no harsh shadows, creating a pure, healing atmosphere.
-
Soft projections or light elements can still dance across the model’s body, adding gentle visual texture.
Main Focus
This symbolizes love, majesty, and vulnerability—the garment is fluid, light, and unencumbered.
The model’s movements should be more graceful and free, aligning with the lightness of the emotion.
- Focus on visuals of her body, with projections of delicate, fluid shapes that shift and change as she moves.
- Consider abstract light patterns or soft projections that mirror the fluidity of love, openness, and vulnerability.
Music and sound
Use soft, soothing music, perhaps gentle piano or light strings.
The sound should evoke calm, peace, and healing, ending on a subtle note of emotional resolution.
