Research & Ideation¶
For this week we worked with a couple of diffrent ways to scan either with iphone apps or with the Xbox360 and with the Sckaneckt infra red that we were able to catpure and create the scans in real time. As well as look into other artist work and get inspired by other artist and architects out there in the world.
References & Inspiration¶
For my inspration I took from some other larger scale art instlation that I have seen before from artist at Burning Man and others from latin america.Over all by trying to cature the human body in its essance but at the same time with a bit of a more story line. But my idea was to ideate more artisitc sculpture that is a siting meditating and the cente of the chest is holow beacuse it can be intreptraed in many way one way could be fiding your center with in, another could be that open to the owrld or missing some one but over all the same message of wating to conect and feel deaply.

Tools¶
We used the Xbox infrared, Rihno, Blender and Make human and Slicer Fusion.With Xbox infrared we were able to get a full body scan and see how it can get catptured and then we worked and brought it into rihno to clean up and close the mesh and other aspects that were in the back ground.
- Skanect xbox 360 Kinect; or other apps to be able to scan figure
- Slicer for fushion 360; to slice the figure
- Rhino; to be able to open the flat file and set up for lazer cutter
pro tip¶
Save out the OBJ and STL files the OBJ can have the color of the scan and can play around with the modle of it and STL more of the skeloton of the 3D scan.

Process and workflow¶
First it was to see how the 3D scanning worked with some other programs and iphone it is possible but we found it more effective to work with the Xbox infrared senssor.
From there we took it into rihino and try to clean it up and close the messh on the figure. After wards took it into the SLicer progrma to better get an idea of how it would be created amd make sure it lined up.
Step 1 Body Modle¶
This model 1 was obtained by a modle I got off of makehuman source by a an artist called callharvey3d_lotus. Then I extruded the center part of the chest in blender and use it to create more of a statment peace. Then I closed the mess and next setp was to take it into Slicer Fusion 360 program. Usally good to save both the OBJ and the STL file
2 Step Slice it¶
The laser cut nesting 2 was created using Slicer for Fushion 360
The second step was to take it into slice fushion 360 and create a model that would work in the form I was looking into, and I wanted to make an interlocking system for this particular structure. Since the spaces inbeteen showing threw, the figure would highlight the hollow center. From there, take the files in the slice fashion and save them as a DFX to take into Rhino, lay out more pieces, and create the file needed to transfer to the laser cutter.
3 Step Set Up Files¶
This model 1 was created in Rhino to be able to lay out the flat design and load it to use for the lazer cutter.

For a double layered cobard set up - engraving red rgb color= at power of 42.00 speed 2.50 - cutting blue rgb color= power 25.00 and speed of 2.00
3D Models¶
Make sure to download the ZIP file then follow the step on the FQA had to toruble shoot and conect to the shared forom to be able to load in the figure proplery into the program.¶
