About Me

Hello, Hola! My name is Paulina Serra. I am a graphic designer and multi-media creative. My background is in graphic design, and I have worked on various projects, including packing, product design, apparel, and branding. I want to expand my knowledge and skill sets with the FAB academy and learn ways to mix traditional materials with technology. Innovation interests me the most, just like I do with my work of combining traditional with new media and evolving with different ideas. I am also interested in health and wellness and trying to implement those elements in this program and see what I can develop.

Fun Facts

Aside from design I am also a certified yoga instructor, first aid responder and fire spriner.

Previous work

I have worked mainly in product design, branding ads, and illustration in the past. I am waiting to ideate and bring more ideas to physical reality. I don't have any robotics skills or electrical knowledge, but I am excited to learn along the way and brush up on old concepts and ideas.

One project was called CABASSOS. I had created a concept for a reversible motorcycle jacket with D30 Material that hardens at the moment of impact to serve as protective gear while also being flexible and bends to feel secure and comfortable.

I previously worked on a couple of concept designs. One is Naptic, a diagnostic sleep app that monitors brain activity and any irregularities in real time. It can call for help and alert medical providers and loved ones so you can have a good night's rest. It is remembered for those with head or brain injuries and can also be used to monitor newborns' vitals and breathing.

CABASSOS

Naptic

The idea behind Naptic comes from a brain aneurysm my father had a couple of years ago. Thankfully, he was okay, but it got me thinking if there's a way to monitor brain activity while you are sleeping and, in case of help, alert those around you or initiate a first aid response. Also, this could be used to help out with cases like SIDS or other monitoring for patients that don't need attachments to them with the common ways we have now. I want to explore and see if there is a possibility of creating an intelligent textile alternative to motoring vitals.
