DEVENIR ANIMAL DOMESTICADO/BECOME A DOMESTIC ANIMAL

My project consists of a harness-like device that inflates with every Instagram notification received. To develop this, I started by researching various previous soft robotics projects created by Fabricademy students and others from around the world.

Nowadays, people are completely tamed by society. Even if we try to act "wild" because it's trendy, it's almost impossible. Perhaps the wildest thing we could do is isolate ourselves, disconnecting from the outside world. We are made to believe we have freedom of expression, but in reality, there are more and more barriers to truly sharing our thoughts. We are increasingly limited, forced to follow trends, and unknowingly start believing we need things we only desire to feel like we belong. This is the concept I’m embracing to develop my project.

The project consists of a harness-like device that connects to an Instagram post and inflates with each interaction it receives. Each notification adds a small amount of air to the harness, initially creating a pleasurable sensation. However, as the interactions increase, the harness inflates further and becomes uncomfortable, eventually suffocating the wearer."

The performance is designed to take place in a space where three characters are present: two "scientific researchers" and a "wild animal" to be tamed. The audience takes on the role of "taming the animal" by participating in the interaction.
