About me

My name is Sofia Elvira Victoria Gomez I have degree in Computer Science from the National Polytechnic Institute and a Master's degree in University Teaching from the Iberoamerican University. I have completed specialty studies in Digital Design, took a diploma from the Toon Boom software at the company Animex. I have had a long teaching career in Educational Innovation, teaching courses to teachers for the use of new educational technologies. I am a full-time professor in the Department of Art, Design and Architecture; one of her primary functions is to teach subjects of Textile Design and Interaction Design and Digital Animation focused on the management of digital images, flat strokes, video management, simulation of knitted and flat fabrics. In the area of textile design she has focused on specializing in the management of software for flat fabrics, Jacquard, knitting and digital patterning.

My background

I was born in Mexico City and moved to the state of Puebla thirty years ago. I have been fortunate enough to teach at the Iberoamerican University of Puebla since 1998. Currently, I am a full-time teacher at the Bachelor of Textile Design, where I work with different software simulation of knitted and flat fabric, as well as vectorized drawing. One of the most interesting areas in my training is the management of basic industrial patterning, which has allowed me to foray into 3D simulation. I have had the opportunity to experiment with different teams of the university fablab, because I am passionate about diversifying and concretizing processes that support the development of the person and that contribute to the sustainable management that supports the care of the common home.

Project Mexican clothing simulated in 3D

This project consists of the analysis and virtual creation of 29 traditional costumes from 12 states of México that are an integral part of the cultural heritage of this country. The aim is to familiarize society with traditional Mexican clothing, to stimulate cultural identity and appropriation to promote the learning of ancestral techniques and to support national and international dissemination with 3D simulations.
The main challenge of this project is to promote proposals that favour fair trade and contribute to the creation of new relationships and ethical attitudes to safeguard the cultural heritage of the various peoples included in the research. On the other hand, disseminating the clothing of craftsmen favours the non-migration of their peoples, because it supports the appreciation of their knowledge in design, traditions and customs. The work carried out fully supports various ethnic groups which, over the centuries, have been marginalized and displaced by globalization.
