"Stay calm and Relax" by Rico
The most significant difficulty for me of this assignment is BLENDER! After 2 days of immersion and confrontation, I’ve understood the manner and process. First, I’d like to simplify by hiding icons I don’t need yet, resizing the text in the menu as extensive as possible, and enlarging the frames. I redo all exercises and now… I'm calm and relaxed!
Learning steps¶
Scan 3D¶
Despite my travels abroad, I needed to find a 3D scanning application for my phone.
object. I upload to my phone.
I set up two scan modes using the appt: Scan and Model.
For both setups, I used the lidar and the multi-image system. Each method provided a good file.
With more time, I would capture additional images to achieve a higher-quality mesh object.
In Blender, I first deleted the mesh surrounding the object. After a crash, I selected the object first, inverted the selection, and deleted the scene around it. This approach is much easier and faster.
I used the Boolean add-on to cut the bottom and the top.
Unfortunately, my model is a hollow form and I couldn't slice the object. ![Sketches on paper and on Fresco/iPad by Annabel Fournier]

MakeHuman¶
MakeHuman is not available for MacOs anymore.
I set up the add-on in Blender and created a big female model. I modified some features, such as the chest and breasts. I also tested all the Pathfinder tools on this model. I would have had any hands, so I did it on my model!

Sketches on paper and on Fresco/iPad by Annabel Fournier
During speeches, presentations, or discussions, I draw proposals on paper. Most of the time, I have so many that I’m overwhelmed. I step back, I wait a bit, and I choose the most effective project.

Following my first assignment, it’s clear that I need to focus on the glasses project.
I would create a helmet to see in violet.
Model and images: Annabel Fournier
This model 1 was obtained by Blender
The laser cut nesting 2 was created using Slicer for fusion.
Tools¶
Here are almost all software I uses this week :
- [Blender on MacOS](https://www.blender.org)
- [3d scan with Poli.cam sur Iphone](https://poly.cam)
- [Slicer for fusion 360] (https://www.autodesk.com)
- Production lasercut
- vector design
- bipmap images
Process and workflow¶
1/ Blender¶
This model 1 was obtained by using Blender on Mac OS.
My project involved designing a new pair of glasses to enhance the perception of violet hues. I created the model using Blender. Although it would have been much easier to construct the design in SketchUp, I was determined to apply my newly acquired skills in Blender.
I utilized mesh cubes and circles, employing additive and subtractive modeling techniques.
2/ Slicer for fusion¶
Slider for Fusion 360 doesn't work on my Mac. I had to use a Windows computer instead of mine. The file was exported in .STL format and subsequently opened in Slicer for Fusion 360.
Given that my helmet is round, I selected the curved setup to ensure an optimal fit.
It's possible to choose the number of slides in Y/Y/Z axes.
I can see wrong faces, I will try to repair them in Slider.
My question is, do I have to modify the model in Blender first, or can I repair the error directly in Slicer? Exportation in .eps.
3/ Illustrator¶
I open the .eps file on Illustrator. The components were rearranged in the laser cut layout using Adobe Illustrator, and the file was exported in .svg format.
I resized the components individually; in future iterations, an automated solution should be sought to increase efficiency.
4/ Beam studio¶
The laser cut nesting 2 was created using..
At the Fablab, Beam Studio software was utilized to manage the laser cutting process.
Processing honeycomb cardboard presented several challenges; it was prone to burning or incomplete cuts. A considerable amount of time was required to calibrate the machine properly.
Extra: OPENSCAD-2012_1¶
Throughout a technical issue with the Slider for fusion, my brother and I coded a slider on OpenSCAD-2021.
I coudn’t have done it by myself but it’s intresting because after opening the .STL, it posible to describe with code the way of delete (differences) the volume step by step.
Code:
Download the .stl file:
Fichier Glasses.stl 3
OPENSCAD
... $fn=60;
ep_carton=0.62;
for(angle=[0:6:180]) rotate([0,-angle,0]) translate([0,0,-ep_carton/2]) linear_extrude(ep_carton) projection(cut=true) rotate([0,angle,0])
difference() {
translate([0,0,-13]) scale(165) import("/Users/Annabel/Downloads/Glasses.stl");
translate([0,0,1.8]) rotate([-90,0,0]) cylinder(d=10,h=50,$fn=60);
color("red") translate([0,-5.5,0]) scale([0.8,1,1]) rotate([90,0,0]) rotate_extrude(angle=180) translate([25,0,0]) circle(d=0.5,$fn=20);
color("red") translate([0,-9.5,0]) scale(0.97) scale([0.8,1,1]) rotate([90,0,0]) rotate_extrude(angle=180) translate([25,0,0]) circle(d=0.5,$fn=20);
color("red") translate([0,22,0]) scale([0.8,1,1]) rotate([90,0,0]) rotate_extrude(angle=180) translate([9.5,0,0]) circle(d=0.5,$fn=20);
color("red") translate([0,7,0]) scale([0.8,1,1]) rotate([90,0,0]) rotate_extrude(angle=180) translate([25,0,0]) circle(d=0.5,$fn=20);}
