About me

Hola!

My Name is Daniela Maldonado, I'm Mexican and I'm currently studying industrial design in IBERO Puebla.

Studying design have opened my eyes to different perspectives, have teach me about materials, processes, but mostly has given me a variety of tools to make my ideas come true, nonetheless, I've always felt that there are certain areas that are not teach enough or at all that limit my ideas, so hopping to discover new perspectives and skills I enrolled myself to Fabricademy 2025!, so that the lack knowledge stops being a factor of not pursuing my passion.

I would say I lean more towards disciplines like ceramics, jewelry, drawing, sketching, because I really enjoy doing things with my hands.

Ceramics

I like very much to do ceramics, I think is a very artistic form of design, I found it peaceful and relaxing. Also, the fact of doing everything from scratch and little by little creating each piece, I believe gives them an unrepeatable touch, in a way, everything is.. well, unique.

I believe that it is a discipline that can lead to lots of experimentation, in the colors, techniques, forms. I will say that I am no expert or have been working with it too much, less than a year, but it is an area that I would very much like to explore in a near future, maybe even professionally.

Jewelry is another area that I really enjoy, I have discovered that in this discipline everything is in the details and having patience, because the pieces are really small and delicate. I haven’t been working with jewelry for very long, but it is another area that I found really fascinating. I've only worked with three different techniques: piercing and soldering, lost-wax casting, and acid etching, with those I have made rings, charms, earrings and a little folding knife charm

Furniture

During a semester in my career, I learn the basics for the fabrication of furniture. For a finale project I developed this chair from scratch, it was a real challenge for me because it was the first time I used the machinery and tools, nonetheless, I wasn’t able to really experiment as much as I would like too… but in a future I would like to discover witch is the breaking point, or more like the balance between designs in furniture that have interesting's unusual forms, that pretty much goes against what we are used to, but are still a 100% ergonomical and comfortable.
