We Do Bamboo - 1st Visit Report¶
Local Bamboo Manufacturing Capability - We Do Bamboo, Kenya¶
Scope¶
Assessment of locally available bamboo species and dimensional manufacturing capabilities relevant to engineering and testing applications.
Bamboo Species Availability¶
| Species | Notes |
|---|---|
| Bambusa Vulgaris | Thicker culms, good flexibility, suitable for bending and applications requiring improved formability and strength |
| Dendrocalamus Asper | Larger diameter, thicker walls, higher stiffness and strength for more demanding applications |
• Typical harvest age: ~6 years
Processed Bamboo Dimensions¶
| Parameter | Typical | Maximum / Safe Limit | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Length | Variable | Up to ~2.5 m | Dependent on culm height |
| Width | ~18 mm | ~25 mm | Species, age and culm dependent |
| Thickness | ~8 mm | Thicker possible | Dependent on bamboo type |
Manufacturing Capability¶
| Capability | Description |
|---|---|
| Dimensional control | Mechanical sizing equipment used to reduce bamboo to specified dimensions |
| Width consistency | Constant width guaranteed within stated limits |
| Thickness consistency | Constant thickness guaranteed within stated limits |
| Repeatability | Dimensions repeatable across production batches |
Sampling Capability¶
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Sample provision | Samples available on request |
| Purpose | Independent testing, validation, and prototyping |
| Specification | Samples can be supplied to requested age and dimensions regardless of bamboo age or species |

We Do Bamboo - 2nd Visit Report¶
Scope¶
To better understand processes that We Do Bamboo undertake for sugar removal and bamboo drying.
Brief discussion with the technical lead - Salvatore Correddu.
Outcome:¶
- Salvatore sent their research material on the 2 processes
- ![Process Summary]
- We Do Bamboo to provide sample poles (2.5m) as follows; for each species, provide both wet and dry bamboo at both 4 and 6 years .
