ABOUT ME¶
Hi, I’m Flora! I’m a multidisciplinary designer driven by sustainability and a love for creating work that catches the eye, sparks curiosity, and starts conversations. My practice is all about experimenting with materials and ideas that push boundaries while weaving stronger connections between people, art, fashion, and the natural world. Growing up between Tanzania and the Scottish Highlands, I’ve always been shaped by the landscapes, communities, and environments around me. Those experiences continue to guide how I see the world and how I bring ideas to life through design. Nature is my biggest teacher. Its endless library of shapes, colours, textures, and quirks never stop amazing me and continue to be my biggest inspiration. Biofabrication has bought me a space where I can merge creativity, sustainability, and innovation, designing with nature instead of against it. It’s become my passion and my purpose, a way to create solutions that support both people and the planet. With access to use technology as a tool to expand this work, I’m excited to keep exploring just how far my designs can go.
MY BACKGROUND¶
Over the years, my creative journey has taken me in lots of directions. While studying Visual Communications at Leeds Arts University, I explored sculpture and digital media, creating immersive installations that blended video, animation, and storytelling with physical space. The work was dynamic and visually engaging, but I noticed that if it wasn’t rooted in nature, I quickly lost inspiration. That realization helped me see that my practice has always been grounded in the natural world and now I’m leaning into that fully, building on it with intention and excitement.
This is an example page from my sketchbook. This book comes everywhere with me and it is filled with all my recent observations of the world. I sketch and collect little pieces from all the different locations. Presenting the landscape and environment visually and physically, really inspires me and doing this makes me very happy.

Working with elements of the land and sea to reveal natures hidden potential, I created a series of handbags that mimicked the closed-loop, circular systems found within nature. This was the beginning of building my own material archive.
