Bio composite material¶
The bio composite material help with structural strength, Never the less, it solves three environmental challenges at once. It reduces CO2 emissions by replacing cement with a low-carbon alternative, it gives a second life for the agricultural waste. and produce sustainable solution for today needs.
Research and inspiration¶
I aimed nto keep my solution sustainable and have ecological solutions inspired from nature ! Adding to that i want to mix it with clay to see how it works - since i made research and had discussion with marina experts in jordan i understood that corals need a strong , regid elemennt so coral fragment can stick on it and build on! that is why i saw some projects here working with concrete material as its streangth shows positive signs!
However i was aiming to use a sustainable low carbon material such as clay + Bio composite materia (to enhance the strength and allow coral to build on as well coral needs carbonate - calcium to build more and this acheived by bio composite)
Materials¶
After research i found out that i can mix the clay with some additives from nature based on their qualifications to make the clay stronger and regid. Such as Eggs shell or Banana Fibers.

Egg shells¶
Oyster shells works as carbonate support which is important for corals fragment to build on and enhance it . same as egg shells which work similiar to oyster in this matter and were more available to find and use in Jordan.
Here more details could help you :
When comparing eggshells and oyster shells for chickens, both are primarily composed of calcium carbonate, which is essential for calcium absorption. Read More
Workflow¶
As part of my quest for truly sustainable materials, I reached out to a local bakery here in Amman to rescue their eggshell waste. was surprised to find out tons of it just waiting for a second life! I collected small amount of the shells , cleaned and wanted to ground them into a fine powder to use it as a natural additive mixed into clay . It's gritty, organic recycling at its best, boosting strength while keeping things zero-waste.

Banana Fibers¶
As research and project showed how banana fiber could be mixed with the soil to enhance its durability. Banana plant bark boasts a fine mechanical strength, making it a wonderful reinforcement component in the building fraternity. adding to that mixed Banana fibre in soil building blocks useful to enhance the ductility, impact resistance, and toughness of certain chemical reactions.

Out put material test¶
Testing and firing are critical processes in ceramics to ensure the quality and performance of the final product. Here are some key points to consider when testing clay after firing: Shrinkage Tests: Measure the reduction in size of clay during drying and firing to assess its shrinkage properties. 1 Firing Tests: Evaluate the color, texture, and durability of clay during firing. 1 Strength and Durability Tests: Assess the mechanical properties of clay, including resistance to cracking, breaking, and wear. 1 Absorption Tests: Determine the amount of moisture the clay absorbs, which is crucial for microwave and dishwasher safe ceramics. 1
These tests help ceramic artists and manufacturers make informed decisions about clay selection and processing, ensuring the best possible results for their ceramics
