Simple Frame Loom

Wooden frame with nails were used to make a loom that can weave the fibres.

The size of the loom was 5cm by 60cm.

The disadvantage for this specific loom is the weavers were straining to weave the ropes because of the barrier at the centre.

We later made another frame loom from metal and nails through welding. The frame loom had a hollow space at the centre for easy weaving.

ROPE-MAKING TOOL

To make work easier and faster, a simple rope-making loom was created and tests were done. The tool was inspired by this video.

Step 1

3-D print the pulley that I downloaded from thingiverse.

Step 2

Cut some plywood into square shape and made holes for the hooks to be scewed in. I then assembled the pulley into the hooks.

Sted 3

Linking the pulley with the rubber ring to provide flexibility of movement.

Step 4

Sandwitched the pulley to another board of plywood of the same size.

Step 5

Made the second hook point.

Step 6

Sisal fibre trial by tying one end of the hooks with the sisal fibres to the other ends as well and using a drilling tool to help in spinning the fibre into a yarn.

The challenge with the current tool is the yarns do not attach themselves together.

I noticed the hooks wee spinning on the same direction and this might be the cause. I will try to ensure that one hook spins in the opposite direction.
