Armoured Skin

For my computational couture assignment I was inspired by “Armour”. There are many modular forms found in nature that act as procetion like armour.

My goal was to create a 3d printed fabric sample that would mimic the structure of Armoured skin.

I would be experimenting on lycra which is a great material for mimicking scale like fabric when printed on with TPU because of Lycra’s high elasticity properties.

I researched similar concepts online and found some interesting results using various bases and shapes that would mimic protective skin and tessellated mesh forms created through 3d printing.

Object Formation-Blender

I wanted to come up with a single shape/form that would act as a scale to repeat in grid form for printing. I used blender to create my SVG file.

Suggestions/Imporvements

Although I was happy with my initial results having 3d printed for the first time, I felt that could attempts some improvements .

I used PLA this time Stretching the Lycra in only one direction to see if the elasticity would create the scaled effect I had envisioned.
