1. State of the art, project management and documentation

⊹ ࣪ ˖Motivation.𖥔 ݁ ˖

I wanted to join the Fabric Academy to broaden my horizons and explore what design, technology, and experimentation can offer me, as well as what I can contribute to it. I'm excited about everything I'll learn and also about seeing my classmates projects. I enjoy seeing others visions and different perspectives on a topic.

I´m not quite sure what to expect about this journey yet, or the knowledge i will acquire, but i do have some concepts i´m inspired by and would like to explore further.

Bio yarn

Bio yarn, or "bio-based yarn," is a type of fiber made from renewable, biological sources rather than traditional fossil fuels like petroleum. This category includes a wide range of materials, from natural fibers that have always been bio-based (like cotton, wool, and hemp) to new, innovative synthetic fibers created from things like corn starch, castor oil, seaweed, or even recycled post-consumer plastic.

The main goal of using bio yarn is to reduce the textile industry's environmental impact by offering a more sustainable alternative.

kombucha & Mycelium

The experimentation with SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast) and Mycelium it´s so interesting to me. Fungus are such an important species, they´re awsome and noble. Just a whole world to explore :) .

  • Mycelium is the root network of fungi, an incredibly strong and versatile structure. It can be grown on waste substrates to create materials used in: construction, packaging, textiles.
  • SCOBY, famous for its use in kombucha, is a cellulose biofilm that can be grown and molded into sheets. Once dry, this biofilm becomes a material very similar to paper or leather, and it is 100% biodegradable. It is being explored for: packaging, textiles.

Markdown´s basics .ᐟ

To start documenting my process i went to GitHub and signed in. Then i went to my profile and clicked on code/web IDE, it popped out a page where i could start editing my page.

And it looked like this, afterwards i clicked on the week i wanted to start working on.

To submit my changes i clicked on the icon located on the upper left part of the page (everytime you modify something a number pops out) and clicked on the commit and push to "main" button.

To upload images, first click right button on images/upload, and then to "call" the path of the image you wanna use with this code:

![](../)
And when you do that a menu should appear, click on the images/ folder and look for the image you want to use.

The following info has helped me so much to understand markdown´s basic functions to customize my page:

To change the theme color and accents go to mkdocs.yml file, the code you wanna change should look like this:

theme:
  # The name of the theme, needs to match your requirements.txt file
  name: material
  # Material theme options:
  palette:
    # try other colors from https://squidfunk.github.io/mkdocs-material/setup/changing-the-colors/
    scheme: slate
    primary: white
    accent: blue
You can change them by typing different color options on primary and accent. Go to this page to see what other colors are avilable.

To change your main font go to mkdocs.yml as well, and look for this part and type your font after text:

 font:
    # See available fonts from https://fonts.google.com/
    text: Jost
    code: Roboto Mono
Check out the different options google fonts has to offer!

For having a different font for the titles or headers i followed step by step the documentation from one of my classmates, go checkout Alberto´s page. But basically you need to add on a code on stylesheets/extra.css, mine looks like this:

/** Add your extra/custom CSS classes below */
/* Fuente distinta solo para títulos */

@import url('https://fonts.googleapis.com/css2?family=Jacquard+12+Charted&display=swap');
h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6 {
  font-family: "Jacquard 12 Charted", system-ui;
  font-optical-sizing: auto;
 font-weight: 400;
 font-style: normal;
 color: #0033f1;
}
The font i used it´s Jacquard 12 Charted Static, and you can find it on google fonts. To change the color of it go to this page, pick your favourite and copy the Hex code.
