My background

I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design and Engineering from Zhejiang Sci-Tech University and an Award of Completion from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), where I specialized in fashion design and engineering. Over the years, I’ve worked with several fashion brands in Kigali, gaining experience in bespoke tailoring, design development, and sustainable production practices. My background combines technical expertise and creative design, with a strong focus on craftsmanship, textile knowledge, and natural dye experimentation. Influenced by both international education and local fashion culture, my work bridges precision, innovation, and storytelling — creating garments that are not only well-crafted but deeply personal and environmentally conscious.

MOtivation

My motivation stems from a deep passion for fashion as both an art and a form of innovation. I believe that clothing has the power to communicate identity, culture, and emotion — and I am driven to create designs that embody these values while embracing sustainability and modern techniques. Through my background in Fashion Design and Engineering, I’ve developed a curiosity for experimenting with materials, exploring natural dyeing processes, and blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics. Joining the Fabricademy program is an opportunity for me to expand my creative and technical horizons, connect with a global community of designers, and explore how technology and sustainability can redefine the future of fashion. My goal is to apply this knowledge to grow my atelier in Kigali, integrating innovative textile practices into local production while empowering others through design and education.

Professional Experience

Over the years, I have worked with several brands in Kigali, contributing my skills in design, tailoring, and project development. Some highlights include:

1.Collaborating with local boutiques and fashion houses to design custom collections, tailoring pieces for clients, and advising on fabric and finishing choices.

2.Managing design and production workflows, ensuring quality control from pattern to final stitch.

3.Mentoring junior tailors/designers, sharing know-how of sustainable practices, natural dyes, and bespoke tailoring techniques.

Through these roles, I’ve developed a strong understanding of local fashion markets, client preferences, and the practical aspects of running an atelier — from sourcing materials to scaling custom orders.
