5 Ws who, what, when, where, why¶
who¶
This project is developed by me as a Fabricademy student and fashion designer based in Kigali, for clients seeking bespoke ceremonial garments with personalized details, especially for weddings and formal events.
what¶
The project involves designing and producing custom 3D-printed accessories—buttons, ornaments, and decorative components—integrated directly into tailored dresses and groom suits.
when¶
The project is carried out during the Fabricademy program, following a process of research, material experimentation, digital design, prototyping, and final garment integration.
where¶
The work takes place in Kigali, Rwanda within the Fabricademy lab and my tailoring studio, combining local craftsmanship with digital fabrication technologie
Why¶
In Kigali, access to high-quality and custom-made fashion accessories is limited, often relying on imports. 3D-printed accessories offer a game-changing solution by enabling local, on-demand customization. By integrating these elements into tailored garments, the project elevates craftsmanship, merges tradition with technology, and strengthens my brand through innovative, digitally fabricated design

3d printing to create zero waste sustainable fashion This research followed design as a research paradigm to apply zero-waste principles to 3D printing in efforts to ensure sustainable applications of 3D technology in the apparel and fashion industry. Researchers used Rhinoceros 5, Tinkercad, MakerBot Replicator 2 desktop 3D printer, and polylactic acid filament to create elaborate designs

3d printing and wearables In fashion combining art, science, and technology, we create designs that push the limits of emerging technologies. 3D printing and wearable technology have experienced an explosion in popularity in the last couple of years in fashion disciplines from both industry and academia
Ai tools¶
-
tripo3d is an AI-powered 3D model generation platform that lets you create high-quality 3D assets from text prompts, images, or sketches in seconds, without needing advanced 3D design skills. It uses generative AI to automate the modeling, texturing, and editing process, and supports exporting models in formats like STL, OBJ, GLB, and FBX suitable for 3D printing, games, AR/VR, and product design
-
meshyis an AI-powered 3D model generation platform that lets users create 3D assets from simple text descriptions or 2D images, making 3D modeling accessible even without prior experience
-
hyper3d.aiis an AI-powered 3D model generation platform that transforms simple text descriptions or 2D images into production-ready 3D models in minutes using advanced generative AI technology. Hyper3D makes high-quality 3D modeling more accessible, especially for users without deep technical experience in 3D software.
Blender¶
Blender is a free, open-source 3D creation software used to design, model, sculpt, animate, and render 3D objects and scenes. It is widely used by designers, artists, and makers because it is powerful and accessible.
With Blender, you can create 3D models from scratch or edit models generated by AI tools, then prepare them for 3D printing, product design, animation, or digital visualization
