Storytelling

I. Concept & Message

Resurrect is a ritual-based wearable project that questions the human hierarchy over nature. Through a symbolic act of disassembly, the clay modules ccomposing the outer structure of the garment are removed from the body and reassembled underwater onto a steel scaffold, transforming into an artificial reef habitat. The clay modules reinterpret ornamental fashion through a sustainable lens, proposing ceramic ornamentation as a material that can transition into a second life as marine habitat.

The garment is composed of:

• A dress with an inner fabric layer that remains on the body and returns to land, and an outer layer of detachable ceramic reef modules attached to the garment.

• Earrings made entirely of ceramic reef modules.

• A headpiece made entirely of ceramic reef modules.

The ceramic elements are the only components transferred into the sea, either individually or in connected groups, where they are reassembled onto a structure to form a marine habitat.

The ritual follows a vertical hierarchy of meaning:

The wearable is structured as a symbolic gradient from the grounded body to the egoic self:

  • Lower Parts of Garment : A Metaphor for Human Trace: the grounded imprint humans leave on the world.

  • Middle Parts of Garment : A Metaphor for Desire & Attachment: the emotional drivers of consumption.

  • Headpiece : A Metaphor for Pride & Ego: the human belief of standing above nature.

As these elements are gradually surrendered to the sea as a token, from bottom to top the body relinquishes its symbols of possession and status. What once shaped the human form is resurrected as habitat for marine life.

The project ultimately proposes a shift from human dominance to ecological care, suggesting that responsibility toward nature begins with stepping back from the center of it.

II. Narrative Approach

The first video trailer of the project will follow a poetic and ritualistic narrative, unfolding as an emotional journey rather than a documentary explanation.

The visual language focuses on slow gestures, material textures, and quiet contemplation, allowing the transformation from human possession to ecological care to emerge gradually.

The narrative moves through three emotional stages:

Stage 1: Awareness; a moment of reflection on human consumption and its impact on marine ecosystems.

Stage 2: Surrender; the ritual disassembly of the clay modules from the body, occurring through three symbolic levels:

• Level I: Lower Garment Pieces: Presenting the Human Trace (the physical imprint humans leave on the world).

• Level II: Upper Garment Pieces + Earrings: Presenting Desire & Attachment (the emotional drivers of consumption).

• Level III: Headpiece: Presenting Pride & Ego (the belief of human superiority over nature).

Stage 3: Transformation; the reassembly of these elements underwater as an artificial reef habitat.

Stage 4: Vulnerability; the human returns to land stripped of ornament and hierarchy, leaving behind the symbols of pride and possession.

III. Story Timeline and Storyboard Structure

Story Timeline

The film unfolds as a short ritual journey structured as follows: - Duration: ~1:30-2:00 minutes

Storyboard Structure
Scene I: The Presence, Awareness (Introduction)
  • Duration: ~12–15 seconds

  • Visual Narrative: The woman stands still, facing forward or towards the sea or a body of water (which could be a reflective surface, or simply an open horizon). Memory Glimpses: while she stands still, brief flashes appear, 3glimpses of coral reefs, where bleaching corals gradually turn pale, like distant memories surfacing in her mind. (paradox between human consumption and ecological consequence.)

  • Setting: The environment should feel quiet and contemplative, almost suspended in time.

  • Lighting: Soft natural light, warm tones, slightly golden.

  • Main Focus: The silhouette of the garment with the clay modules.

  • Color grading: Warm, earthy tones.

  • Sound/Music: Soft ambient sound: wind, distant waves.

  • Transition: Slow fade or gentle cut as she begins walking toward the water

Scene II: Entering the Sea
  • Duration: ~10 seconds

  • Visual Narrative: She slowly walks into the sea.

  • Setting: Shallow shoreline.

  • Lighting: Natural light reflecting on the water surface.

  • Main Focus: The movement of the water around the garment.

  • Color grading: Cooler tones begin to appear.

  • Sound/Music: Water sounds increase slightly.

  • Transition: Camera slowly follows her until she disappears beneath the surface.

Scene III: Submersion
  • Duration: ~12–15 seconds

  • Visual Narrative: Floating calmly underwater.

  • Setting: Underwater environment.

  • Lighting: Soft blue underwater light beams.

  • Main Focus: The existing coral reefs, the garment floating and close-ups to the clay modules attached to the garment.

  • Color grading: Cool blues and soft greens.

  • Sound/Music: Muted underwater ambience, slow atmospheric music begins.

  • Transition: Close-up of her hands touching the clay modules.

Scene IV: Disassembly
  • Duration: ~15–20 seconds

  • Visual Narrative: She begins removing the clay modules starting from the bottom of the garment and attaching them to the scaffold, with close-ups of her removing the earrings and then the head-piece.

  • Setting: Underwater near the steel scaffold.

  • Lighting: Soft beams of light filtering through deep blue water.

  • Main Focus: Clay pieces being detached and reattached.

  • Color grading: Cool tones with warm highlights on the clay.

  • Sound/Music: Slow rhythmic music.

  • Transition: Cut between garment → scaffold assembly. Camera moves upward from bottom toward the head.

Scene V: The Reef
  • Duration: ~12 seconds

  • Visual Narrative: The scaffold now covered with clay modules, fish swimming through the structure.

  • Setting: Underwater.

  • Lighting: Soft beams of light.

  • Main Focus: Shifting the focus to the artificial coral reef.

  • Color grading: Cool tones with warm highlights on the clay.

  • Sound/Music: Slow rhythmic music.

  • Symbolism: The garment becomes the habitat.

  • Transition: Cut to the woman swimming upward.

Scene VI: The Return
  • Duration: ~20 seconds

  • Visual Narrative: After the ritual, only the inner fabric layer remains on her body, she exits the sea without her trace, desire and ego. She walks out in a reduced, vulnerable form. This final image becomes the political metaphor of the project: The human steps back from the center of the world. The sea does not receive our waste, but our hierarchy. What is given is not matter alone, but the structure of how we place ourselves above nature.

  • Setting: Underwater to above water (act of exit).

  • Main Focus: Her vulnerability.

  • Color grading: Return to warm tones.

  • Sound/Music: Soft waves, calm music.

  • Final Shot: The water body behind her.
