DEVELOPING PROJECTS

This week we had a first contact with the personal project. Implications & Aplications asigment will consist on simplifying concepts and defining ideas, for that we must start asking questions about our project so in this way it begins to be ordering and solving possible problems and doubts. It will be necessary to write, write and write with the help of diagrams, postit, schemes or other templates that help us to develop as much as possible.

For now, the only tip I can give is to trust in your work process and think in big ideas. The complicated thing is to imagine, since with work and discipline you can get to achieve your purposes.

INVESTIGATION

Do not mix them with the MACROalgae that we commonly see on beaches, MICROalgaes are unicellular photosynthetic microorganisms. They are microscopic cells found anywhere on the planet. They are responsible for 50% of the world's CO2 and from what I have researched they can give us many properties.

PROPERTIES

  • Biofuel

  • Avoid plastic

  • Animal feed

  • Nutritional food

  • Pharmacists

  • Chemistry

  • Cosmetics

WHAT

FUNCTIONAL SCULPTURE

collage made by Canvas

I am very interested in microalgae for all the properties they can bring. My final project I want to direct it to its cultivation and production of the biomass that is obtained. For that I will build a circular cultivation machine , where studying its production and maintenance I can introduce other elements that allow me to generate a biomaterial. Thinking about design will be essential where simplicity and comfort are a priority.

HOW

MICRO ALGAE CULTIVATION

Autonomous Production Process and Sustainable Mischer Trashler's project can be a great reference.

WHY

CREATE MY OWN BIOMATERIAL. THE SCULPTURE PRODUCE THE MATERIAL FOR FUTURE CREATIONS

Tools and machines of the future are AUTONOMOUS AND GREEN I see interesting to grow and recreate a material at home. All this can bring interesting and sustainable ideas for living and production.

FOR WHAT

SUSTAINABLE IDEAS FOR LIVING AND PRODUCTION

Many possibilities. I have not thought about the final product

FOR WHO

ANY ONE WHO IS INTERESTED IN SUSTAINABILITY

Microalgae have been worked in laboratories for many years, but in reality their way of cultivating is not complicated. There is also large-scale cultivation but this implies other provisions and more complicated care. A possible user could be schools or leisure areas where many people concentrate, because one of the properties of microalgae is to absorb CO2 and expel clean air

think more about this

PLANIFICATION

STEEP 1

  • Thinking and schemes

The first week in my case hasn't been so stressful. I had more or less thought of some concepts that I would like to work with (biomaterials and algae) It has been interesting to connect all the students in the same exercise and share ideas and thoughts instantly, I would like to be able to get together more often and know how this experience is going.

STEEP 2

  • Home cultivation

A first contact to see evolutions in terms of local climate, nutrients etc. Has you can see, with few materials we can start.

STEEP 3

  • Sketches, drawings and models.

At this stage of the project, creativity and imagination are important. I take advantage of Christmas to think and give shape to the cultivation sculpture. I look for organic forms where the green color of the algae and the bubbling of the production count as an aesthetic and visual form.

Design with Rhinoceros and Grasshopper.

i would recommend that you make some graphics to show the properties of the algae, not only words. check the project of catherine euale/ when we show the references you should not waste the time of your 3 minutes to explain the references ( the projects of others* . the "content " of your project is this "idea slide you hadm, this was very valuable , because we understood what the project is about.

(Angela) Microalgae - Biology and Art- Functional Sculpture. Wonderful Project Paula, love especially the alived installations that can produce Living Exhibitions. You have always mentioned closed systems however I have seem here at the University Departaent in Sao Paulo a big Cultuvation pool at open air that was really impressive, you could think about that.

  • microalgae
  • what will the scultupre made of? many projects use plastic, that does not offer the same beefits
  • is it about home scale growing?
  • i suggest you work with a material that is not plastic (glass?)
  • the bubble making requires energy, makes sound as well, the pump makes noise too

Louise) Microalgae- Beautiful project and fascinating technology working with microalgae ! I am really looking forward to the development of your project ! I am sure you already know this reference but Neri Oxman did a collection of masks with embedded microorganisms and different patterns as a result. I would be interested in how microalgae growing habits change depending on the conditions and can help you gain knowledge on your own environment.

Situate your spirulina reactor in your home. By living with it it will help you to give it a shape a meaning.
