X - FIBER PROPERTIES¶
Important points¶
The quality, thickness and elasticity of the fibers depend on three parameters:

Cooking temperature

Cooking time
-
Machine rotation speed.
Different thicknesses¶
Doing several tests at different speeds it was possible to see that the results of 6000 and 7000 rpm are more subtle.
Characteristics¶
1500 rpm¶

Observation: It is observed that the longer the plastic is cooked, the fibers tend to become more brown.
6000 rpm and 7000 rpm¶

The fibers are fine and thin, very viable to make yarns.
Try Spinning¶
We built the URSULA spinning machine, a project developed in the Open Source Hardware week - From fibers to fabric by Marisa Satsia, a student of later years at Fabricademy.
As can be seen, it is possible to create threads with the fibers. At the moment only thick threads have been produced.
Experimenting mixing PLA plastic with PET¶
In one of the experiments I wanted to combine PLA with PET to dye the fibers and at the same time see if other characteristics improved.
In this experiment use.

The quality and flexibility was improved, PLA helps to dye and provide flexibility.
Yarns¶
Thanks to the URSULA machine it was possible to generate different threads, maybe I tried mixing cotton with pet.
Observation: Adding cotton to the pet gave it more resistance and the flexibility was the same.
