Modular Fashion

  • modular clothing refers to garments that have detachable or adaptable elements that can be easily removed, swapped out, or remodelled to create different styles, lengths or overall look in response to changing fashions or need.

Process and Workflow

tessellation.png

  • Tessellation:

  • Started by researching where I can find tessellation in architecture, and different surfaces and find out how to connect the pieces in order to use all the waste fabric

2D Design

  • Sketching and Creating Shapes
  • Paper
  • Scisors

sketching shapes.jpg

Ideation

  • Create a board that would work as an interaction game and turned into a bag
  • the stripes would intelock and create a game -use all the waste material to make the connections

Creating The Board

  • sketching on rhino to decide the final design
  • Scale of the design: 240mmx320mm
  • Diameter of circle

working on rhino to finalize the two boards with the array command I could multiple the circles and then split or trim the parts that I did not need

final design ready to be lasercut

Preparing the Final Design

1) first test with paper to check if the shape is overlapping correctly

2) Decided to work with leather leftovers as it would match the idea of my design

3) Lasercut the board first to check if the size is correct 4) check the speed of the laser so as not to burn the leather fabric 5) After lasercutting the first board with the cuts, I put the second piece of leather to lasercut the circular strap that will pass through the holes of the first board 5) Lasercut

Final Board

  • I want to create a bag where you could change the stripes and their position to create different games. It could be doublesided too in order to be able to make your own pattern.

  • With the stripe leftovers I can connect the parts together and form the bag so as to use all the waste material.

it also looked cool from the reverse side too

Overall with the lasercutted strapps, I could create all the connections for the closing parts and connect the two pieces in order to create the bag but needs more further development
