FABRICATION FILES¶
Language Search¶
The language was inspired by the Korean alphabet "Hangeul", initially created by King Seojon The Great in 1443.
An alphabet I've been trying to understand and (re)learn for over 30 years. Despite the barrier (cognitive and psychological), I love the graphics of this alphabet.
This language is also used in panel 1 via textile paper, in panel 2 via embroidery, stencils and textile paper, and in panel 3 via embroidery only.
With the help of my husband, the French Generative artist Makio135, I was able to get a visual to create a pattern for my third panel, to have the mix of colored and plain patterns. The visual is generated using JavaScript code on the Observable website: Hangeul Journey. This part will be embroided2.

Visual of the 3 panels¶
Here's the finalized visual of the 3 panels, with one side composed of dyed fabrics and the other side with the language compositions (embroidery, textile paper or stencils).
In order: Panel 1, Panel 2, Panel 3
- Panel 1 symbolizes a rather fixed, straightforward representation of the vision of my adoption (few memories, distance, focus on French culture...), of this me of yesterday.
- Panel 2 symbolizes an attempt to blend the two cultures (Korean and French), to different degrees, with different symbolic values in the construction of my “in-between” self, like the two sides of a mirror in which you can see the other side discreetly ("window" with tulle).
- Panel 3 symbolizes the me of today, who continues to build himself, with a more considered view of adoption and “cultural heritage”. The assembly of the pieces is more random, leaving more room for openness and self-acceptance.
