Concept

5 Ws who, what, when, where, why

how is what you will start defining in your process pages

what

This project is an exploration in 2 parts of how we can give textile waste a new life

Part 1: Compiling and sharing existing methods of creating new materials from textile waste

Centralizing & creating an accessible resource for designers and creators to find the work and process of those who have created new materials from textile waste

Part 2: Creating a new material from textile waste biocomposite

Developing a method of bio-patchwork, a low-labor alternative to traditional patchwork with a focus on durability, low waste and circularity

when

Now and for as long as we have textile waste. This process and website will be developed over the next couple months of Fabricademy, but I plan to maintain the website to continue to add contributions of new textile-waste based materials processes afterwards

where / who

In homes, studios and anywhere people have access to textile waste with a desire to create

This project is focused on accessibility. The website will clearly state which machines and tools are necessary and my own process will offer a range of alternatives for those with / without certain tools

This project is for anyone who wants to create a material with waste or those who create waste and want to use every last bit

why

Creating is an important part of life. However, with the massive negative impact of the textile industry, including working conditions / environmental impact we need to find new ways to create. This project intends to take advantage of existing materials & the labor put into creating them while developing options to create
