5 Ws¶
WHO¶
Target group: Youngs / Youngs-adults (12-25)
This project will use the premise of Gamification (explain in the first block of information), to make it more attractive and enjoy full.
Now, I don’t want it to get confused for a toy since kids can use it. It is not exclusively designed for kids.
WHAT¶
Wearable
Programmable gloves that activate the cognitive process, increasing neuroplasticity through a game
How would it work?
After a lot thinking, analyzing how what already exist works, how is the relationship and interaction between the user and the product that I want to propose, and the different types of stimulus that could be used to “give instructions”, I decided to go for colors to guide the person actions.
I want to make something using the principles of e-textiles and wearables, since it’s a completely new area for me. Through this project, I hope to learn as much as I can and become more skilled in it.
I´m thinking neo pixels will be the right choice so that they could change colors ( no more than three), and so depending on the color that appears, the action to be done. Including sensors that register that the correct action was carried out.
To define more my project, I first made a list of all the possible interaction modalities I could use, like visual, auditory, haptic, kinesthetic, among others.
Then I selected the ones that sounded more interesting, based on the analogue research, discarding also on how much of a trouble they would be to work with.
I finally concluded focusing on kinesthetic, specifically pressing or touching; and for the instructions, or the way the person would know what to do, use colors (visual), using lights (neo pixels).
By doing this I narrowed the possibilities, making the ideation phase easier.
WHEN¶
The project development will take place practically on only two months (January and February).
January Finalize the idea and reach a complete design for both the electronics and the physical form.
February Start by focusing on the electronics: run tests, develop the physical form, integrate the electronics, and carry out final tests on the finished prototype.
March Final arrangements, focus on the video and booklet.
WHERE¶
I will develop this project in the Ibero Puebla IDIT, where the FABLAB is.
WHY¶
Seeking to combine physical movement with meaningful mental processing
The main idea is for it to be an object that generates beneficial brain connections in the person who use it increasing neuroplasticity, psychomotor skills, and stimulation of the cerebral cortex.
Now, as for why I am truly interested in this project: I’ve always been curious about robotics, electronics, mechanics, and similar fields. Even though I find them fascinating, I’ve never had the chance to properly learn or explore them. That’s why this project feels like the perfect moment to start exploring these areas and to combine what I learned in Fabricademy, specially in the weeks of wearables and e-textiles with my background as an industrial designer.

Below are examples of some games that have similar objectives to what I'm looking for:
01.¶
@wta Attention players: a new game is about to begin 🚨 #WTA #WTALinz #ReactionGame ♬ original sound - WTA
The person who is playing is supposed to catch all the sticks that drops aleatory.
The interaction is kinesthetic and visual, since the person identify which stick dropped and proceeds to catch it, all in seconds.
The cognitive functions that it involves are: - Gnosis - Selective attention - Processing speed - Dual exestuation
02.¶
@activategamesmanufacture Fast press button reaction game faster be faster.#reactiongame #buttongame #reactiongamechallenge #earmoney ♬ Fire in Your Eyes - Jai Nova
This one consist in the person touching all the buttons that light up, it can be following a sequence that adds one more each time, or just fast responding to the aleatory buttons.
The interaction once again is kinesthetic, and visual. First identifying the one that light up, then pressing.
The cognitive functions that it involves are: - Gnosis - Selective attention - Processing speed
03.¶
Ieva Marija Dautartaitė Fabricademy 2023-2024.
Naim Al-Haj Ali Fabricademy 2024-2025
I also took as an example this two final projects of previous years. These projects aim to simplify learning about electronics, making it user-friendly and easy to understand for all ages. Both projects built upon the foundations of e-textile and developed various elements to facilitate connections, component changes, and other related tasks.
Tip
Remember to credit/reference all your images to their authors. Open source helps us create change faster toegther, but we all deserve recognition for what we make, design, think, develop.
Moodboard¶
Collect images to give insight in your vision: colors, shapes, sounds, images, words..
Tip
remember to resize and optimize all your images. You will run out of space and the more data, the more servers, the more cooling systems and energy wasted :) make a choice at every image :)
