1. State of the art, project management and documentation

Research & Ideation

Within the Fabricademy program, I’m interested in exploring how design, materials, and technology can act as living collaborators rather than static tools — sensing, growing, and weaving alongside us. My dream is to shape these explorations into experiences and ventures that not only spark wonder but also invite deeper awareness — of ourselves, of each other, and of the earth we share. At the heart of this journey are my interests in critical design, embodied interaction, regenerative materials, hybrid ways of working, and the search for deeper awareness and connection.

References & Inspiration

Here are some projects that I am looking at — and I’m excited to see how this list will grow and shift throughout my Fabricademy journey.

Documentation Workflow

Step 1 - Understanding the Tools

This week we've been introduced to many new tools. My first task is to understand what each tool does and how they connect to each other.

Step 2 - Understanding the Workflow

  1. Create an account on Fablabs.io This account works as the entry point to access all Fabricademy tools.

  2. Log in to GitLab through Fablabs.io GitLab serves as the central hub where project files, images, and version history are stored.

  3. Open the WebIDE in GitLab Navigate to the appropriate folder (e.g. assignments/week01/) and use WebIDE to edit Markdown files or upload images directly in the browser.

  4. Commit changes Committing saves the updates into GitLab, recording each modification with a version history.

  5. Site build with MkDocs Every commit triggers MkDocs, which converts Markdown files and images into a structured website.

  6. View the published site The updated documentation becomes available on the personal Fabricademy URL: class.textile-academy.org/[year]/[student-name].

Week 01 - Challenges and Lessons

  1. Understanding the tools and workflow was my first barrier. At first it felt overwhelming, but with the help of AI I was able to digest and make sense of the information fairly quickly.

  2. My biggest challenge has been figuring out how to tell the story in a way that feels clear, coherent, and accessible to others.

  3. Another struggle is learning how to document things quickly and consistently, instead of getting caught up in perfecting every detail.

  4. Surprisingly, curating references for my research and inspirations took much longer than I expected. Even though I constantly consume content for inspiration, when it came time to choose which projects truly resonate with me, I found myself going blank.

For the upcoming weeks, I will continue to practice prioritizing process, progress, and storytelling over perfection.
