Nuance

What

My project is the intersection of two different cultures that wants to create a space that second-generation children (children of immigrant parents born and raised in a country other than that of their parents) feel at home in. All this starting from a very personal point of view and creating my own space.

How

I chose to create a fabric with vegan bioplastics made from two types of algae: sodium alginate and agar agar.

For the pigments, I chose to use the minerals that colour the MontaƱa de Siete Colores in Peru.

The modules I used were inspired by the ornamental, pictorial and textile decorations of the Renaissance (fascinated by the way in which the connection between man and nature was represented by the artists of the time). I came up with my final design consisting of joints.

For the design I was inspired by the manta that is used to carry children on your shoulder (a safe place) and the way it is tied reminds me of a hug.

Why and for Whom

the choice of interlocking modules stems from the idea that everyone can build their own space using the modules and colours they feel most represented by. just as the idea of levels represents the nuances, the layers that tell us.

When

I planned the three months of January- February- March to focus on the final project
