1. state of the art, project management and documentation

this first week has been a nice transition to my new home in barcelona & to the fabricademy.

i have caught up on sleep, as well as on the tutorials introducing the platforms that we will use during the fabricademy. i have begun documenting my workflow on the mkdocs site.

i wrote a biography of my study, work, and design experiences that have led me to this moment. i condensed the writing to publish on my website, so as to be a more concise introduction.

i have used the app procreate to quickly compile multiple photos into a collage to introduce myself and my inspirations. i hope to use this app more to draw pictures to add more thematic flow to my documentation site.

i embedded my portfolio of previous work from google slides onto my website. i am struggling to eliminate the black borders around the slideshow.

i uploaded images to my images folder and embedded these on my site. i have learned the importance of considering the size of images and other embedded files (in pixels) for publishing on a website.

i have explored different themes for the mkdocs site. i have looked at previous students' sites. i am interested in learning more web development skills to organize and present my weekly assignments similarly to how petty jansen developed her site in the cohort of 2020-2021.

i am wondering where in the code the different pages are established (i.e. the home page & the assignments page)

yesterday, we played a game in which we ideated on our final projects. below are the sticky notes that i wrote, illustrating some guiding themes as i begin the journey of the fabricademy :

bringing more life & nature into cities

redefining spaces

sustainably harvesting & processing wood // designing with the organic form of natural, grown materials // using advanced scanning & modeling tools to design new forms without resorting to the conventional industry tactic of planarizing sheets

bio-digital hybrids // embedding electronics in grown beings, such as mycelium

making music & complementary animation / visual effects

storytelling

3D printed fabrics (hammocks)

3D printing with waste material

grown structures (mycelium)

designing structures/scaffolding to facilitate/optimize plant growth

digital embroidery

weaving
