Building the gloves

LETS START!

After many ideas, sketches, prototypes, I came to the final design this gloves modular with and “skeleton approach”, using metallic safety pins to make the electronic connections.

Sketches by Daniela Maldonado

For all the pieces I used neoprene fabric of 2mm a little expandable for more comfort.

I traced all the pieces in Rhinoceros 3D and then exported the file as dxf.

Before cutting the final pieces, I did some tests to see how to arrange them, taking into account the fabric's spandex and preventing them from becoming misshapen.

In the end, I realized that it was best if all the pieces stretched lengthwise, not widthwise.

Lasser cut values

Work parameter
Max. Power (%) 30.00
Min. Power (%) 10.00
Work Speed (mm/s) 40.00

FINGERS

Instead on doing one finger at a time, to have a better organization I worked in blocks.

(I verify almost every step that the neo pixels where working, because it did happen that some wires because of the manipulation lost contact to the safety pins or to the neo pixels, so before moving to the next step I fixed them)

HAND HARNESS

01

For the hand harness, my original idea was to use conductive wire, but then I thought it would be better to solder, as it would ensure the conductivity of the entire circuit.

02

Unfortunately, I used a very thick wire, and that caused that due to manipulation not all connections holded, and had to do it all over again using soft connections (conductive thread).

For this second try, I used only conductive thread, first maping the paths of each connection, because I could only connect the neo pixels to D1,D2,D3,D4, meaning having to cross paths with the connections of the “sensors” D10,D9,D8,D5.

The piece of leather to help me first distribute all the connections more with more space between them to prevent them from touching at any point. And then I just follow my traced paths.

I left a small unsewn opening at the bottom to connect the cable to the external battery.
