YAQEEN Thob ثوب اليقين

YAQEEN means CERTAINITY

This dress neither evokes the past nor anticipates the future; rather, it envisions a free Palestine.

It embodies the unwavering conviction that freedom is not a possibility, but a future state, foreseen before it is realized. In this work, the dress transforms into a witness possessing foresight, bearing the image of Palestine as it will be, not as it has been forced to be.

Its details do not stem from a dream, but from knowledge; the knowledge that what has endured through generations will not perish, and that the land that has preserved its identity will regain its freedom, however long it takes.

Inspiration

This thobe speaks of hope and a profound certainty that liberation is coming, its details pulsating with a vision brimming with optimism and determination. Its symbols carry the meanings of new beginnings, inspired by various parts of Palestine, embodying the spirit of renewal and continuity through time. This thobe also reflects the anticipated joy of freedom, a joy that resides in memory and conscience, expressing a collective dream of liberation and a return to a life of peace and dignity.

Emotions & Visual Symbols

To begin developing the symbols of this thobe, I asked several people to imagine the emotions they would feel if the liberation of Palestine were announced, as well as what they might wear on such an occasion and which colors would best express those feelings.

Based on their responses, I drew inspiration for both the symbolic elements and the color palette of this thobe.

Symbols

Chest Panel

For this thobe, I primarily focused on the chest panel, where all the symbolic elements are concentrated.

The chest panel carries symbols that represent all of Palestine, from the river to the sea. These elements embody meanings of freedom and new beginnings, while their colors convey a sense of energy, optimism, and hope.

Color Palette

Since this garment speaks of hope and a strong belief that liberation is coming, the color palette was carefully chosen to reflect these meanings. The selected colors function not only as an aesthetic element but also as a form of expression, carrying emotional and symbolic connotations connected to people’s anticipation of freedom and the feeling of new beginnings.

The color palette of this thobe consists of uplifting and harmonious tones that express optimism, inner certainty, and renewal, while subtle brighter accents evoke the joy and celebration that people will feel at the moment of liberation, creating a sense of warmth, light, and forward-looking energy.

Thobe development

According to the basic story of the Recoded Tatreez first collection, the Third thobe is YAQEEN THOBE, Which carry the faith of freedom and new beginings.

So from this point I started to think about the design, symbols and colors of the thobe that will tell the story.

First Step choosing the fabric.

like other thobes, I choose Moiré fabric which is 50% cotton & 50% synthetic silk, which is woven in Alepo / syria.

I choose the green color which reflects new beginings.

Third Step cutting the fabric

I choose my mother thobe as a pattern, because its very similar to the original traditional thobe.

I decided what is the changes that i want to apply to the original design, then we started cutting the fabric according to that.
