Accessories

Introduction

The accessories of the Palestinian thobe play an essential role in completing the overall look and enhancing its cultural significance. Among the most prominent elements are the head piece and the waist belt, each carrying both functional and symbolic value.

The head piece varies from one region to another, with each area featuring its own distinctive design and style, reflecting local identity and heritage.

The waist belt, traditionally, was often a piece of fabric or a shawl wrapped around the waist, serving both practical and decorative purposes.

Together, these accessories not only complement the thobe visually but also embody tradition, identity, and cultural expression within Palestinian heritage.

So, to complete the modern heritage outfit I decided to design the accessories using bio-leather combined with 3D printing techniques, in order to merge heritage with a contemporary language that suits today’s young woman, reinterpreting traditional elements in a modern and wearable way.

Material Choosing

Acording to all the experiment that I did before on the BIO-LEATHER I decided to use the SODIUM ALGINATE leather for both the belts and the head pieces.

Belts making

First of all, as an important step I decided the design of the belts, And I choose to make it simple belts without any additives to keep the focus on the Tatreez patterns of the thobes.

I prepare the basic recipe of the Sodium alginate recipe.

You can find all details about the recipe here Sodium Alginate Bio-leather

Then I Start applying the belts as stribes on the tray. I used 1 meter lenght tray to get an 80cm belt lenght.

In the picture below you can see many stripes in different colors and width. I made many of the to choose from and to let a space if I want to made some shapping instead of the simple shape.

The colors that I used for this recipe is Mica pigment, it gave an elegent shade for the belt.

Then I let it to dry completly.

and here we go

Head pieces Making

To prepare the Headpieces, I choose to print the patterns first, then apply the ALGINATE BIO-LEATHER between the pieces.

So I started with the design of the headpiece pattern, I choose to use one of the most common TATREEZ symbols THE CANAANITE STAR

after design I print it

then I applied the BIO-Leather

IN this step instead of buying fake metal coins from the shops I decided to make it 3d printed. I downloaded an ottoman coin from internet and print it, and because I don't have the suitable filament color I printed it using white color the paint it using fabric dyes.

and her we see the final result
