TONALLI¶
Tonalli, a tribute to the ultimate teacher: Quetzalcoatl.
This project was ment to be for the student but ended being a collabraative work with them and the knowledge we adquire was unvaluable. I wanted to find something that could gather the hand craft and the digital craft together and after a big researched I found Quetzalcoalt as the master of the duality.
I gather 10 students, explained them the project and at the beginning they were a little exceptical, but as the began to involved in ti they finished loving it and whishing to have it replicate next semester.
Here are the main ideas for the final presentation.
Since the ancient Aztec and Toltec civilizations in Mexico, Quetzalcoatl has been a symbol of wisdom and knowledge, as well as creation and balance — rooted to the earth, the master of raw materials, with the breath of wind, sparked mind and infinite imagination. By acknowledging this immense duality of Quetzalcoatl and the Mesoamerican civilizations belief that the universe was built on balance between opposing forces, TONALLI brings the correlation between handcraft and tradition, with limitless machinery innovations. True Design Wisdom is not found in one or the other, but in the Flow between them. This capsule collection is designed for “The Modern Seekers”, a framework for students to learn the balance and explore this duality. A tribute to the ultimate teacher: Quetzalcoatl, the Dragon/Feathered Serpent. When Hispanic colonization took place, many Mexican civilizations were suppressed. However, the depth and sophistication of ancient Quetzalcoatl prevailed, keeping the pre-hispanic and indigenous heritage alive, while adopting new ways of life. By acknowledging this immense duality of Quetzalcoatl and the Mesoamerican civilizations belief that the universe was built on balance between opposing forces, QUETZAL FLOW brings the correlation between handcraft and tradition, with limitless machinery innovations. True Design Wisdom is not found in one or the other, but in the Flow between them. Presentation¶
Here is the final presentation of my TONALLI project without the video integrated.
I start with the video, because I wanted to introduce the audience into the theme, the mood and my roots, after I start explaining all the processes applied on the creation of these capsule collection conformed by these two garments, the recycle textile, the bio scales, the 3D feathers, the OS fashion, the embroidery and the electronics.
