Graphite - Gelatine biofoam

First test

Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Gelatine powder: 25gr
  • Glycerin: 25gr
  • Water: 100gr
  • Dish soap: 5 gr
  • Graphite powder: 15gr

Method:

  • Bring water temperature to 80 degrees, add the glycerin and stir well to dissolve.
  • Add gelatine while stirring well. Never bring the water to boil.
  • After gelatine is all dissolve, simmer in low temperature for about 10-15 mins or until the mixture has honey-like consistency.
  • Add dish soap and whisk with the whisk attachment of the hand held blender for 2 mins.
  • Simmer for 2 more mins.
  • Add the graphite powder and create an even mixture by folding with a spoon.
  • Pour the mixture into your molds.

I prepared two samples in petri dishes:

  • SAMPLE 1: 28g and 11mm thick
  • SAMPLE 2: 36gr and 12mm thick

≈ 150kohm (thicker the better conductivity)

Conductive wool - Gelatine elastic

Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Gelatine powder: 25gr
  • Glycerin: 25gr
  • Water: 150ml
  • Conductive Wool from Bart & Francis

Method:

  • Bring water temperature to 80 degrees, add the glycerin and stir well to dissolve.
  • Add gelatine while stirring well. Never bring the water to boil.
  • After gelatine is all dissolve, simmer in low temperature for about 10-15 mins or until the mixture has a consistency of maple syrup.
  • Spread the wool evenly in the petri dish and start pouring the mixture. Make sure all the wool is soaked and the sample has an even thickness.

3 samples:

  • SAMPLE 1: 2 gr wool, 40gr gelatine mixture, resistance before: 30-60, resistance after: ≈ 25-45
  • SAMPLE 2: 2 gr wool, 30gr gelatine mixture, resistance before: 30-60, resistance after: ≈ 15-30
  • SAMPLE 3: 1.5gr wool, 28gr gelatine mixture, resistance before: 50-90, resistance after: ≈ 25-30

(less gelatine, more wool the better conductivity)

Shieldex® Crimped Fibers - Gelatine biofoam

Ingredients:

  • Gelatine powder: 25gr
  • Glycerin: 25gr
  • Water: 150ml
  • Shieldex® Crimped Fibers: 1.5gr

Method:

  • Crimped fibers are around 60mm in length. Cut them to smaller pieces so that you can create a more homogeneous sample.
  • Create the biofoam base recipe following the first test recipe for gelatine biofoam.
