Hello!

Rebeca FL profile photo My name is Rebeca and I am a Brussels-based, interdisciplinary artist and facilitator working with textiles, dance and voice. Lucky to be joyfully making since 2003, I create work that can be performative or sculptural and is often presented in spaces and formats that are outside conventional theatrical contexts. Growing up between cultures as a migrant's child has shaped my curiosity for belonging, exchange and the ways we relate to the world around us. These questions continuously feed my work and my everyday thoughts.

I believe in the transformative powers of art and am particularly sensitive to creating spaces where people can meet, experiment and imagine together. In my ideal world, everyone has access to the arts and the freedom to express themselves.

Personal Leitmotif

If I had to choose one word to sum up my life’s and my work’s philosophy, I would choose improvisation: the art of making decisions in constant dialogue with our surroundings. When it comes to exploring something, be it in my work or in everyday life, I prefer to listen to what is unfolding around me and let that feed my intuition and my decision-making process.

I want to approach my journey with Fabricademy in this exact way: explore, get lost, discover, solve, then begin again, and I am very curious to meet the person I become over the coming months.

1. My Trajectory

Places that shaped me

Zurich -> raised and educated
Liverpool -> studied contemporary dance
London -> developed my artistic career as a performer and choreographer
Buenos Aires -> studied Tango dancing and worked nomadically
Madrid -> explored my roots and became a mother
Brussels -> rebuilt my life and career and rediscovered textiles

Projects that touched me

weave -> The interdisciplinary company I co-founded after moving to Brussels. Together we create performances, exhibitions and participatory projects that surprise, disrupt and connect people.
Centre Culturel Le BRASS -> a collaboration that started at the very beginnings of my Brussels-life and has grown into a strong relationship. Among many other things, I host a bi-monthly textile laboratory, where we work in a circle and all needles are welcome.
Zinneke Parade -> in 2024, I was invited to join the team of Brussels' unique Zinneke Biennale as a co-artistic director for their Zinnodes. This experience was extremely profound to me, as I felt to be entering a part of this city's cultural and social DNA.
BabyLab Bazaar -> an interdisciplinary, Brussels-based collective I was part of for 7 years, researching, creating and presenting contemporary work for infants and toddlers.
Bottlefed -> an interdisciplinary performance company I co-founded in London and which I passionately co-directed and performed with for 10 years.
