Hello there! This is the place where I'll document my journey through Fabricademy- my experiments, projects, research, faliures, a learnings!

About me

me

I'm Shivam, an Engineer and a maker, interested in technology, digital fabrication and traditional crafts. For past seven years I have worked and taught in various makerspaces and digital fabrication labs. I have an lifelong experience in breaking things to understand their inner workings (putting them back together has been optional). Now using that same curiocity, my training, ever developing perspectives on design, and a generous help from people around me, I am learning to build and create things of my own.

My background & previous work

My beackground is in Instrumentation Engineering and Electronics, but along with that I worked with various digital fabrication tools and well as traditional crafts and techniques.

These are some of my past projects and works -

Lasercutter - An exploration of machine and techniques

Having started using lasercutter only a couple of years back this has become my go-to tool for digital fabrication and prototyping. It is always interesting to explore the limits of a machine, and I have been trying to do exactly that, having used it for not only some heavy production runs, but also with a range of materials and purposes.

Leatherwork

What started as fun weekend activity to make keychain for the bike, has now turned into a full fleged hobby. In just few months I have been able create a few finished leather products. But more than the finished products, I have become fascinated by leather as a material, and have been exploring all aspects of it, be it the techniques themselves or the different variations of the traditional leather, it's sourcing and new sustainable plant based leathers as well.
