1. SQUARE Pattern#

TEST 1

The purpose of using the pattern is :

  1. To reduce waste

  2. Optimize the use of material

  3. Up cycle material

  4. Eliminate double material surfaces

  5. Make the structure of the object for our final garnement without sewing

Research#

1 Bruno Munari about the geometric architecture of nature
2 “Remplissage Périodique” M.C. Escher

My objectives for the first pattern is to produce : 1. [x] No waste 2. [x] Structure for the object and differents notches in A SINGLE cut 3. [x] Optimize the pattern to change colour or to allow for adding new fabrics like different scrap pieces of leather or other material

With the same pattern cut on the laser cutter, there are different ways of assembling the pieces, each producing a different overall form.

USE WASTE MATERIAL of the workshop instead of new material#

I am interested in testing how to reuse waste material in a production line. I have many left over pieces of material in my studio to experiment with and make final projects with.

Goals for this pattern :#

  1. [x] one more organic pattern
  2. [x] one volumetric pattern
  3. [x] one more basic form

Grid Observation
Triangles for one material, circles on the second one. For the circles to not use much material I used a second-hand leather.

The triangle as a patern : easy to make 3D shapes but it takes time, as you can see with Jun Final’s project !

Conclusion#

For this assignment, I was very confused because when I studied Design in high-school as a teenager with a French Bacalaureat degree at the age of 15, I had the same exercice. The exercise consisted of working on a pattern and then making a garment from it. So my question was, what will be different this time around with the Fabricademy version of the exercise? One difference: the access to machines changes the production line speed and the waste management.

modular and adaptable in form With this assignment, I would like to continue to explore the potentiality of a pattern to make a modular piece of fashion.

  1. with these different pieces of fabric, you can have different pieces of clothing, a pair of pants, a shirt, or a dress for example.
  2. little pieces of leather or other fabric can be recuperated from the luxury industry.

Fashion and the Circular Economy#

To evolve the recycle garnment project I would like to acquire a large stock of textile off-cuts from a luxury goods manufacturer and transform this into new garments. See the following website where we can buy big stocks of insustrial fashion textile waste.
