Research on textil modules
Modular map pattern with differents part of the project. In the center the multilayered circuit material device. Each circle is a different compenent to make the whole device. Each circle have a function in the devise, you can change different part.

the devise is a modular 2d pattern which you can switch different part from the pattern to have a different device

Comments :#

The shape depend to the circuit electronic device ! Then I need to know how I can design the electronic part to find the right shape. Also, I don’t know yet if the sound will be hear by the ear, or by the bones, or also through the air like a simple speaker device.

2D/3D textil modules shape#

I take the circle pattern for my begining tools Week 3. Also because if my electronic device doesn’t work at the end, I could took the lexon electronic device (see bellow) inside like a little hack.

Goal Detail Conclusion
Re-shape From 2D to 3D is very usefull because the shape can evolve at every time. this application is good in my project because my device is for differents users in differents contexts.
Re-Use The modules can be cuted in a large pannel of material as recycle leather, waste from architecture industries, textil wastes… I’m use to make my project with wastes and 2nd hand materials.

Parametric design with fusion360#

It’s not the program to do this operation : I think I will prefer Grassoper but I was sik during this course… See this part Assigments 7 computational couture.

For the structure of the object I made like little skins. The skins structure are a very thin part of PLA or TPU. Then the little structures can offer good structure but very thin also for the garment (if we wear it on the body). Those material are 3D printed on textile like second hand textiles wastes to put differents materials and different module of the device (speaker, battery, light…). The differents parts can be join by a system of notches. But after the prototype 1 I have decided that the electronic connexion will be the most principal part of the device. The connexion will be the electronic connexion and not only a system of shape connexions.

The 3D molding process is very hard because it produce quickly nice images. It’s easy to be blind by the software. So I have decided to not draw during many hours and make the prototype directly. The 3D model is a very simple draw.

The addition of silk and 3D printed structure is very good in two ways : - 1. The fabrics is stable without sewing Process - 2. The PLA/TPU are strong but flexible it’s a soft structure for a piece of garment - 3. If I change of scale I can make an object, a piece of furniture, a product…

To find the zero and place my piece of 3D printed silk textile, I make my own pattern to have the right place.#

The notches are not good from my first draw. I have to change the size of the notches for thr triangular shape.

Conclusion for the Modular shape V.1#

This design (video gold and PLA circles) is too complicated, I think the circles and the triangular pattern is too complicated with the other shape and materiality I will make for the potentiometer, the circuit and the LED. In fact I want to have all the electronic device visible. Then I choose to take off the triangular part of the design. I keep the circle and the conneions between circle will be the electronical connexions.

For the electronical connexions I could design a parametrical module in a conductive fabric. But I don’t have time to this part so I have decided to take the cable as my connexion for the moment. But I’m convinced that a pattern with an electronical shape could be perfect and change the aethetic of an object.

Shape V.2#

To find the good shape I begin from the smallest size of the circuit as possible. The circle of my circuit is around 40mm without the connexions. Then I have started with this circle patern where the connexions cable can go through the circle.

For my final project I’m focusing on the electronical part and the materiality of the object. Then I take less an hour to design the shape. And after my presentation I will continue.
